Damned to Be Free Lyrics
death and the shadow that it casts on life scares me little or none.
people tell me of a divine right and the happy chosen one.
I'm a freak 'cause my morals clash with others in the world.
I go home while they work hard, then they same I'm wrong.
there's only one place to be, while living with tragedy.
if their sins affected me, I gotta be damned to be free.
freedom is responsibility, pay more than it's worth.
instincts tells us not to die, hazy myth since birth.
learn their rules, play their game, deceive yourself in haste.
turn your own brain into dust; it's not theirs to waste.
there's only one place to be, while living with tragedy.
extract the nectar, burn the tree, I gotta be damned to be free
thinking... this world it ain't so bad.
dying... it's just another fad.
working... 8 hours, that's not for me.
dying... it's just your destiny.
people tell me of a divine right and the happy chosen one.
I'm a freak 'cause my morals clash with others in the world.
I go home while they work hard, then they same I'm wrong.
there's only one place to be, while living with tragedy.
if their sins affected me, I gotta be damned to be free.

I love this song, and I think it is just about how demanding society can be when it is all pretty pointless anyway. If you don't work all that means is that you would rather be spending your time doing something else, and you just don't want the money from working that bad. I think part of the song deals with how death is a natural part of life, and instead of being so afraid of it people shiuld just accept it as the ending of life. Why work your ass off for a little bit of money when there is such a large world waiting to be be explored. Make the most of your life while you have it, whether society approves or not, it's your life, not theirs.
in this world you are damned to live the way you want
no. you are damned if you live as society expects you and thinks you should live. you should have your own standard to live by.
Depending on how you look at it, it's that you've been damned to freedom or those who are free will be condemmed by society.
We did not ask to be born into this world or even into the authority of the government. By constructing a mandatory set of laws and governmental regulations we confine ourselves. It is necesary for government for the sole purpose of order but we become so used to its limits that we forget that they are manmade. In this sense we build our own walls and thereby eradicate true individuality especially when the idea of life becomes defined by people as a whole instead of by each individual. We are free if we want to be but self conciousousness and the need to fit in and conform obstruct our true path of individualistic feeling. Even this sounds like somthing from a stupid drugged up hippy it is indeed true that the government blocks our thoughts, wills, values, and our true natures. This causes most hipocrisy and what we call selfishness it is just a byproduct of a radical change in nature to conform to popular images.
This song is about the pointlessness of careerism and modern day life, mixed in with death worshipping Christianity. We think were great little workers, but really were accomplishing nothing and its all just a distraction to hide us from the truth. That we are all basically living just to die.
I would also like to add that "extract the nectar, burn the tree, I gotta be damned to be free" is hands down my favorite lyric line of any song ever.
this is a tough one. but you guys come pretty close. I cant follow GodisDead1014 though.
cuz even if you have a better understanding of the song than all of us...
you have to write it in english.
