Latch Key Kids Lyrics
in this world today there ain't nobody to thank,
just blame it on the kids and toss 'em into the tank.
and if they yell for justice we'll hide them from the light
so that when they learn the truth they won't be scared of the night.
(1, 2, 3, 4)
put the key in the hole when you get home from school.
I'll be home by 8:30, your father will too.
if you cause any trouble then I don't want to see,
'cause you'll go straight to bed and you won't have no TV.
just blame it on the kids and toss 'em into the tank.
and if they yell for justice we'll hide them from the light
so that when they learn the truth they won't be scared of the night.

I'm A Latch Key Kid!
I actually have a BR shirt that says that :D
The song is pretty self explanitory. It sounds kind of Queens of the Stone Ageish
first off, you can't say something sounds ...ish or esque when the thing you saying sound like the other thing came first...second this song to me says that we basically "cut the ropes" on kids, whether on purpose or by sheer circumstance, and then expect them to do right by our standards. which is stupid because we dont give them "our" standards and by ours i mean the laws that are supposed to protect and guide us and its stupid because the laws and lawmakers arent nessecarily just
I believe this song is an anti-baby boomer song. I'm looking at the generation of kids who wrote the song. Obviously Greg Graffin must have been 17-19 years old and a child of some 1960's spoiled brat generation parent; a.k.a baby boomers. Baby Boomers being a generation of whom see themselves as victims and are consistantly dissatisfied with there dissposition. These feelings of victimization and dissatisfaction create selfishness, and what gets in the way of personal progression?...children. Children can slow down career advancments, sexual freedom, travel, etc. Baby boomers see children as a burden, or should I say started the whole children are a burden outlook; clearly every generation there after view children as such. It's sad really...it would explain a lot of which I don't have time to get into.
