Out of the Woods Lyrics
I wish you out of the woods
And into the picture with me.
I wish you over the moon,
Come out of the question and be.
CHORUS
If this going to
Run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming.
Run round in my head
I rollercoaster for you.
Time out of mind
Must be heavenly.
It's all enchanted and wild,
It's just like my heat said
It was going to be.
CHORUS
First Verse
CHORUS
And into the picture with me.
I wish you over the moon,
Come out of the question and be.
If this going to
Run round in my head
I might as well be dreaming.
Run round in my head
Time out of mind
Must be heavenly.
It's all enchanted and wild,
It's just like my heat said
It was going to be.

I think the song is about a someone who is in love with another person who may be questioning things. The Narrator wants them to get past their hesitations, and just be with them, and see how happy they feel they could be together. Its frustrating to the narrator, and causes them to be lost in thought over whether this romantic idea they have for the subject will ever come to fruition. It frustrates the narrator to the point they almost feel it would be better to continue to live the dream of it, than waiting for this person to make it real. I think this is also confirmed by the idea that "I rollercoaster for you" showing the peaks and valleys between frustration and adulation for this person's indecision. Also "time out of mind must be heavenly" seems to make me feel they would love for there to be closure on this so they wouldn't keep going through these highs and lows of emotion. Ultimately they desperately love this person and their love for them is wild an passionate, and as many of us know, this almost always goes hand in hand with some sort of deep frustration if its not returned on the same level.
I totally agree with your interpretation, but I'm not too sure what you mean by "they." Are you referring to both singers as the narrator because the harmony is constant through out the song, as if they are singing to each other? Like they both feel the same way and never know it, only ruminate over it?

This song is so deep! I can only get a small tip of what it could possibly mean. Again, it comes out of wanting the best for someone else. And if you think about how happy you want someone to be, then you might as well just dream about it because the happiness, if taken literally, is too far out of reality. But it can exist in a dream, with the enchantedness and celestiality of which you could only dream. "Time out of mind must be heavenly" so s/he, in your mind, are experiencing the fantastic point at which time stands still, so s/he can come out of the question and become him/herself with you there to see.
i love this song! i think it's just like JessiL said, about wanting the best. To me, i hear a song about knowing someone who means so much to you, and is just one of the most amazing people you've met, so you wish them everything, which drives you a little nuts thinking about it all but you try and help them anyway you can. It is very deep though, so something is missing in both of our explanations but i can't seem to figure out what.....
Sweet harmonies!
"It's all enchanted and wild."
This is one of the first Nickel Creek songs I ever heard years ago and one of the reasons I got into them.
I think, in addition to the other comments on here, that it's also about wanting to be with someone who's sort of out of reach and they're imagining what it would be like to be with that person and their image of what it would be like is so amazing and beautiful that it kind of drives them a little nuts. "I rollercoaster for you."
I agree! I immediately think about that person that I wish I could be with but who is unfortunately out of my reach. I do wish him OVER THE MOON AND INTO A PICTURE WITH ME! I definately rollercoaster for him. And it does drive me a little nuts that I can't be with him. But life is what it is...and someone else gets to share special moments with him. :(

Wanting to be with somebody, especially someone who is uncertain about everything in their life. you have no idea what they're thinking and how they feel about you. so you might as well dream that they want you back.
kind of where i am right now.
Love this interpretation. I got into Nickel Creek when I was pregnant with my first baby, and this is one song we put on our "delivery cd." It was her "come out" song we'd sing to her. Sort of that, right now you're still kind of a dream, can't wait to see the real you. That whole "come out of the question and be" thing. And yes, we still "roller coaster" for her, and our other babies ;-)

it reminds me of when my guy is out hunting for days and i can't see him...
This is actually a Sinead Lohan song - both versions are spectacular, but Nickel Creek's is much more mellow and wishful. Lohan's is a little more plaintive.
When my first baby was born, he spent a small amount of time in the NICU. I heard this song playing at a nearby isolette, and forever now, it has special meaning to me. "I wish you out of the woods, and into the picture with me". All of those babies in the NICU were so fragile, and somewhere between nonexistence and existence. They were all "in the woods" so to speak, and every parent of one of those babies just wished them home, and into the picture where they belonged. It is an unbelievable experience, to become a parent, and a baby being born is their literal transformation into "being". For those babies who were sick, their parents were still somewhere in limbo - we all just wished our babies would "come out of the question, and be." And boy, the emotional rollercoaster that comes with that experience. Anyway, I don't know that this is the meaning that the songwriter intended, but I will never see this song to mean anything different.
People can complicate the meaning of songs. Your description is 100% accurate. A song is suppose to invoke an emotion. We won't share the exact experience as the writer, but we probably share the same emotion. Give the song 'Little Chief' by Xavier Rudd a listen. You might find you share both with him. Zak

Only one person above points out that this is not a Nickle Creek song. Anyone not familiar with Sinead Lohan must listen to her youtube videos or seek out her album, No Mermaid. Every song is amazing. I have this fantasy that she didn't quit writing songs when she decided to quit the music business and focus her life on her children, that she's been writing for them and some day will choose to share new material with the rest of us.
