We're miles away from nowhere
And the wind doesn't have a name
So call it what you want to call it
Still blows down the lane

People tell me, I haven't changed at all
But I don't feel the same
And I bet you've had that feeling too
You can't laugh all the time

And if the fires burn out there's only fire to blame
(Hold back the rain)
No time for worry 'cause we're on the roam again
(Hold back the rain)
The clouds all scatter and we ride the outside lane
(Hold back the rain)
Not on your own so help me please, hold back the rain

So what if the words ain't rhyming
Did you think that it's just a game
I probably didn't even say that right
And I really don't give a damn

Okay go off and wander
I'm guilty just the same
Sometimes you're needed badly
So please come back again

And if the fires burn out there's only fire to blame
(Hold back the rain)
No time for worry 'cause we're on the roam again
(Hold back the rain)
The clouds all scatter and we ride the outside lane
(Hold back the rain)
Not on your own so help me please, hold back the rain

And if the stars burn out, there's only fire to blame
(Hold back the rain)
No time for worry 'cause we're on the roam again
(Hold back the rain)
The clouds all scatter and we ride the outside lane
(Hold back the rain)
Not on your own so help me please, hold back the rain

Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain
Hold back the rain

The original is much better than the crappy remixes that you get on all recordings today. If you can find the original that's the best. It has guitar playing not heard on the remixes. And one of the remixes cuts the song in half.

You know it's the original if has a muddy guitar chord hit after the first chorus at 1:32..

Wciąż lubię tę piosenkę i powracam do niej mimo, że upłynęło już tyle lat.

This song was written by Simon in a hotel because of John's drug, alcohol, and sex addictions. youtube.com/watch got to 21:37 if you don't believe me.

Total new romantic scene sound and these lyrics! Who can hold back the rain with this tune! From one of the best 80s albums, Rio.

I heard that Simon wrote this song for John and that it's about drug addiction. I'm dead serious. I know everyone always says a song's about drug addiction if they can't understand it but this is what I read somewhere.

Canada, I read the same thing (about Simon writing this to John regarding his addictions). Some lines really bring it home to me, like the second and (especially) last verses. Heard the same thing about Vertigo, btw.

IMO i think the night versions remix is better than the original. Can see the references to addictions, but it can also be interpreted in different ways

This was on a Behind the Music special-Simon wrote it for John. He slipped it under Johns hotel room door after he had wrote it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
