Floating Lyrics

Floating free as a bird,
Sixty foot leaps, it's so absurd,
From up here you should see the view,
Such a lot of space for me and you.
Oh, you'll like it,
Gliding around, get your feet off the ground.
Oh, you'll like it,
Do as you please with so much ease.

Now I know how it feels
To have wings on my heels,
To take a stroll among the stars,
Get a close look at planet Mars.

Oh, you'll like it,
Gliding around, get your feet off the ground.
Oh, you'll like it,
Do as you please with so much ease.

Bouncing about on the Moon,
Guess you'll all be up here soon.
The candy stores will be brand new
And you'll buy rock with “The Moon” right through.

Oh, you'll like it,
Gliding around, get your feet off the ground.
Oh, you'll like it,
Do as you please with so much ease.

Obviously this song is about being on the moon. But I think it's seen from the perspective of a child and how they would view being on the moon (jumping around, rock candy, all fun). Incidently the song that preceeds this one on To Our Childrens Childrens Children is The Eyes of a Child (With the eyes of a child you must come out and see...).

@Digi-G The album was released in January of 1969 and the Moon landing was in July. The song was about a future where you could vacation on the Moon. Some coincidence, though.

I agree with Digi-G, especially since the entire To Our Childrens Childrens Children album was inspired by the Apollo landing on the moon in 1969. HOWEVER I also believe many of the songs, including this one, have double meaning. This was, after all, the heyday of the counterculture and the Moodies were actually considered a very experimental and psychedelic group back then!! (I remember, I was there.) The Moodies were in the same league as the early Pink Floyd for us old-fart hippies. There is little question that they experimented with hallucinogens (after all, Mike Pinder wrote two songs about Timothy Leary!). So "floating free as a bird" and most of the other lyrics can also refer to getting stoned.
