This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

this song was realeased on the 5 track cd "raygun" in 1997, i think it is about how he is a loser in his own mind. but he used to think it was going to get better, now he just accepted it, and doesen't care.

It's a song about a person that knows they are a loser, but they don't care. Pretty much how I accept myself.
I just heard this on Matt's Myspace page, And I absolutely love it, And it does seem like it's about someone who thinks there a loser...
I think the thoughts on this song so far have taken parts of the song as obviously as possible, and ignored other parts.
Certainly there stands something to be said for not feeling like you're good enough, but the line about being a loser comes on the heals of "the man you loved devoured". It seems a sort of testament to not being who he once was.
Then there's the blatant cry for help of "help me up with a pair of wings..."
This song is so much more than self-pity and self-loathing. Certainly, there may be elements of those feelings, but it seems like a self-reflection that runs much deeper than that.
I'd love to hear Matt's comments on this song though.
I think this is a song about getting dumped. Love is soul crushing and it tore a piece of said person apart. He feels like a shadow of what he once was when she loved him. She made him feel better than he saw himself, and her only felt that way cause of her, now he see's himself completely negatively. The part about the sister I would think would be something about how he was never satisfied and looking back he should of been cause he just bever realized what she meant till she was gone.
Thats not the best interpretation I'll admit but you get the point. Only Matt knows.
