I had the privilage of speaking to Jon at a rather informal concert several years back, and he told me about writing this song. He was irritated in his Chemistry class, and had no desire to take it. "It's all wrong, but it's all right," speaks that sitting in a desk (cubicle, or office, depending on your situation), is not how we were made to spend our lives. It is all right, though; what goes up must come down. He doesn't want to be caught up in a stuff room when he can be out and enjoying other things in life. :)

Ha! CHEM 6A is the intro chemistry class at UCSD, and its not very hard. The lead singer of Switchfoot just sucks at chemistry, I guess.

I think this song is talking abnout how we pu off spending time with God. We'd rather do anything and everything we can to avoid the important things, or things we know we should be doing. However, spending time with God shouldn't feel like a chore!

I've never actually had the chance to speak to the guys, but to add to what you said; We're not made to spend our lives sitting still in one place, that's why God gave us legs. We ARE made however to learn, and to listen and study, that's why we have minds. When we learn and study up on what the world knows, we have an unbeatable arsenal against them becuase we know what God knows too (just not everything, lol), he's on our side. It's all wrong to just sit around and do nothing nuttin but a chem in my head, nuttin but laziness worldly P.O.V., it's natural to be lazy. But it's all wrong. What Daniela said and what Vanillic together said makes a lot of sense. That's what God wants from us. So what are you doing sitting around your computer, GO PREACH!

The song never implies he sucks at it, just that he doesn't like it. Anyway, this is such a cool song. It's so simple but so true. Such a real way of saying that we always choose the easy way.

this is the story of alot of people. i feel like this in reading class. maby he doesnt want to take the class because its too easy or because he will never use it in life. there are alot of things at school that you will never need to know but they just teach you it anyways! ha all of his songs are true. i love music i really wish that someday i will be able to write songs as true as his or at least poetry.
