Sean Flynn Lyrics

You know he just heard
The drums of war
when the past
Was a closing door

The drums beat into the jungle floor

CHORUS
Closing door
Closing door

Rain on the leaves
soldier sing
You never hear anything

They filled the sky with a tropical storm.

CHORUS

You know he head the drums of war
Each man knows what he's looking for

The song is somehow referencing the son of Actor Errol Flynn, Sean Flynn, who was captured and most likely killed in a Vietnamese POW camp when he was there for journalistic purposes.

The instrumentals remind me of a jungle, and before I came here I didnt realize that the lyrics had that theme too....they totally captured the mood.

It's probably about The Vietnam War

"You know he heard the drums of war / Each man knows what he's looking for"

It's probably saying that some men, in this case war reporters/photographers, are not born for safety, they head out to where they know they might get killed. But they go, because they must.

WOXvonWubbins, I really hope you're trolling here. Obviously that boy changed his name due to the song, The Clash didn't write a song about a person who hadn't been born yet. Are you seriously so stupid as to not realize that?

I highly doubt he changed his name due to the song, it's likely he's just named that. The Sean Flynn that the Clash are referring to, however, is the photographer. "Sean Leslie Flynn (born May 31, 1941; disappeared April 6, 1970, age 28; declared legally dead in 1984) was an American actor and freelance photojournalist best known for his coverage of the Vietnam War."

For some reason this reminds me of when I was younger in training ops in Okinawa... back when I was 22-23 in the Corps, don't know why that is

The guy above already explained who Sean Flynn is. Congratulations on being the dumbest poster on songmeanings!

Sean Flynn was the son of the actor Errol Flynn. He became a journalist and covered the Indo-China wars. He and Dana Stone went missing in Cambodia. Before they went missing they used to knowck around with a group of journalists including Michael Herr and Tim Page. Tim page later went on to work for Rolling Stone and covered The Clash, which is I suppose how The Clash became aware of Sean Flynn and I guess was the inspiration for this song. I suspect Tim Page and his photos were also the inspiration for some of the imagery surrounding The Clash in that period.
