Falling For The First Time Lyrics
I'm so smart, too bad I cant get anything figured out
I'm so brave, too bad I'm a baby
I'm so fly, that's probably why it
Feels just like I'm falling for the first time
I'm so clean, too bad I can't get all the dirt off of me
I'm so sane its driving me crazy
It's so strange, I cant believe it
Feels just like I'm falling for the first time
anything easy has it's cost
Anyone plain can be lovely, anyone loved can be lost
What if I lost my direction? What if I lost a sense of time?
What if I nurse this infection? Maybe the worst is behind
And it feels just like I'm falling for the first time
I'm so still, I just cant keep my fingers out of anything
I'm so thrilled to finally be failing
I'm so done, turn me over 'cause it
Feels just like I'm falling for the first time
Anything loved can be lost
Maybe I lost my direction
What if our love is the cost?
Anyone perfect must be lying
Anything easy has its cost
Anyone plain can be lovely
Anyone loved can be lost
What if I lost my direction?
What if I lost a sense of time?
What if I nurse this infection?
Maybe the worst is behind
Maybe the worst is behind
Maybe the worst is behind
The first line of this song is one of the best opening lines I've ever heard. I heard the actual meaning is a perfectionist who found the glory in failing but I found another meaning. It's kinda like how you act when you're in love. You are the total opposite of what you are. But the relationship is a little suffered but it's good otherwise.
Couldn't have put that better myself
Couldn't have put that better myself
I think it's about someone trying to be perfect, always striving for the best.. Letting every failure get to them.. And then one day they're just.. "Screw it, what if I just started being myself, instead of what everyone thinks I need to be!" Maybe messing up sometimes makes doing great alittle even better!
Well, don't feel so bad about hearing it on Disney! I first heard it on a channel called "WB". They had all the kiddie cartoons mixed with the song. I went out and got their Greatest Hits CD... since I like all their other songs too. Yes, this song is about a perfectionist finding happiness or glory in failing. I plan on playing this song for my high school talent show ^.^;
all you people who said it was about a perfectionist, you are right. back when this was a hit single all over the charts, bnl told vh1 that that's what it was about. good job! :)
I think its about trying to put your best foot foreward when you first meet someone and start falling. You try to be cool despite being a loser, you're smart and suddenly nothing makes sense. Its so much simpler than everyone on here is making it to be.
Ultimately I also think its about loving yourself - faults and all. When fall in love at first you often try to be something you're not and finding out you're just you and being happy with that - is like falling for the first time - for yourself. Nobody ever bothers to have self love anymore.
TasChiBandGirl had it right its about a perfectionist who found the glory in failing. So said Steve in "Disc One" so that's the way it is.
Steve Page: We wanted to write a song about a perfectionist who discovers the joy in failing – how he’s got to learn to fall before he learns to fly, and how that fall makes him feel a freedom he’s never felt before. I guess that’s why we removed these lyrics that Ed had improvised; “Anyone itchy must be chafing/anything chafing must be red/anything red must be important/anyone important’s already dead.” But far from failing, check out how Tyler and Kevin are playing their asses off.

In the Greatest Hits album, Steven Page talks about all the songs. For this song, he said it's about a perfectionist who realizes it's good to fail: "We wanted to write a song about a perfectionist who discovers the joy in failing – how he’s got to learn to fall before he learns to fly, and how that fall makes him feel a freedom he’s never felt before. I guess that’s why we removed these lyrics that Ed had improvised; “Anyone itchy must be chafing/anything chafing must be red/anything red must be important/anyone important’s already dead.” But far from failing, check out how Tyler and Kevin are playing their asses off."
I think, when they wrote this song, they were targetting a specific person, ie they had one person in mind, ME!!!!
I think this song is talking about seeing people who think that there is such a thing as perfection and think that they are it and they themselves try to live up to the expectation set ahead of them but really no one is perfect and finding out that no one is perfect and just letting their real person show and loving every second of it...something we all need to learn
