I'm writing you to
Catch you up on places I've been
You held this letter
Probably got excited, but there's nothing else inside it

Didn't have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm
In the mood to lose my way with words

Today skies are painted colors of a cowboy's cliche'
And strange how clouds that look like mountains in the sky
Are next to mountains anyway

Didn't have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when
I'm in the mood to lose my way
But let me say

You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
It brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
No more 3x5's

Guess you had to be there
Guess you had to be with me

Today I finally overcame
Trying to fit the world inside a picture frame
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to
Lose my way but let me say

You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
It brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
No more 3x5's
Just no more 3x5's

"Today I finally overcame tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame"

Wow I've always got my camera by my side, trying to capture every moment and not miss a single thing..and sometimes it pisses me off that I can't just be in the moment and experience it rather than trying to preserve it in a piture.

Ok, I can't believe that no one has commented on this song. Has anyone ever heard it? You can listen to it while driving around Lake Tahoe - it makes perfect sense. Or Highway 1- it makes perfect sense. Or just have one single moment where you wished someone you loved was with you. John IS a nice guy. I met him after one of his shows (back in the good old days before his shows are thousands of people big and he played in coffee shops) SEE HIM LIVE - IT IS THE BEST.

i am in love with this song! it is so TRUE. there have been so many moments in my life where theres no way i could describe it to someone in words or with a picture. nothing can capture the feelings and richness of that moment. my life is based on this song! john mayer is amazing

John Mayer is so freakin awesome.....def. see him live. but this song is my new fav. cause my bf gave me a picture of a sunrise with the chorus written on the back...such a sweetie. i think john is basically saying that he doesnt want to be w/out that special someone at any minute....:) sharing something as beautiful as the sunrise .....or anything else for that matter!!

This song reminded me of my best friend right away. I talked him into buying this CD and he decided this was his favorite song (I was right!) It really fits our friendship too. Some things are too big for words or pictures and you just wish that special person was by your side to experience it with you.

By far my favorite John Mayer song. Things just aren't the same when you don't have that special person there. sometimes words just can't express what you want to, but that's ok, because the next time, that person will be there with you, and it will all be better

Go outside, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and exhale; that's how I felt the song. It's [beau'ti·ful] like his heart <3

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
