All simple monkeys with alien babies
Amphetamines for boys, crucifixes for ladies
Sampled and soulless, worldwide and real webbed
You sell all the living for more safer dead

Anything to belong
Anything to belong

Rock is deader than dead
Shock is all in your head
Your sex and your dope is all that we're fed
So fuck all your protests and put them to bed

God is in the TV
Rock! La, la, la, la, la, la
Rock! La, la, la, la, la
Rock! La, la, la, la, la, la
Rock! La, la, la, la, la

One thousand mothers are praying for it
We're so full of hope and so full of shit
Build a new God to medicate and to ape
Sell us Ersatz dressed up and real fake

Anything to belong
Anything to belong

Rock is deader than dead
Shock is all in your head
Your sex and your dope is all that we're fed
So fuck all your protests and put them to bed

God is in the TV
Rock! La, la, la, la, la, la
Rock! La, la, la, la, la
Rock! La, la, la, la, la, la
Rock! La, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la

Rock is deader than dead
Shock is all in your head
Your sex and your dope is all that we're fed
So fuck all your protests and put them to bed
Rock (rock) is deader than dead
Shock (shock) is all in your head
Your sex and your dope is all that we're fed
So fuck all your protests and put them to bed

"Rock is deader than dead Shock is all in your head" I've always thought this part is about how rock music doesn't really sell anymore because it's an old art. If you look around the world, like in Europe, all the new best acts are electronic and have new age influences. Bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, and tons of other old rock music, continue to sell only because it's sold to us and fed to us. The fact is that the music scene is changing and everything is "all in our heads". Rock Band and Guitar Hero are good examples of old music being kept alive, when in reality this music has been long gone for a while.

"Your sex and your dope is all that we're fed So fuck all your protests and put them to bed"

To me, this means that rock music is just music, just like any other form of music. Attaching a culture to it is a waste of time and pointless.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
