Wash It Away Lyrics
Wash it in the sea
Let it soak all night
Yeah, wash it in the sea
Let the saltwater wash it away
Soak it in bleach
Til it's white on white
Soak it in bleach
Til the blood just washes away
Hang it in the wind
Let it blow all night
Hang it up high
Let the high wind blow it away
Hang it in the wind
Let the sun burn bright
Hang it in the wind
Til the blood just washes away
I've waited, wasted years
For the child that's come and gone today
So I've wasted all this fear?
How can I just turn and wash it away?
If I can then I, then I will wash it away
If she can then she will wash it away
If I can then I will, then I will wash it away
If she can then she will, wash it away
Forty years spent one by one
Forty years of life just slipping away
What I'd give for a firstborn son
Forty years of blood just washing away
I've waited, wasted lives
I've waited long enough I'd say
Say what about this wasted child?
How can I just turn and wash it away?
If I can then I will, then I will wash it away
If she can then she will wash it away
If I can then I will, then I will wash it away
If she can then she will
Wash it away
So send me an angel
Send me the ghost that I was
Just send me an angel
Send me the ghost that I was
That I was
That I am
I will wash it away
She will wash it away
I will wash it away
If I can then I will, then I will, then I will
Yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Yeah, yeah yeah yeah
Oh, oh oh, oh oh
Let it soak all night

"forty years of life just slipping away. what i'd give for a firstborn son. forty years of blood just washing away."
I say its about a couple who had a child too late in the game and the mother had a miscarriage. If you think about it, a miscarriage is the body's way of "washing away" the "wasted cells."
Or maybe thats looking too deep.
I'd say it's about a baby who died... i don't like to think it's about an abortion, because of that line "...for a child that's come and gone today." Really great song by a really great band.
@McAuron Or miscarriage.
@McAuron Or miscarriage.
i was kind of thinking this was about a father who lost his son. the line "..for the child that's come and gone today" sounds like the son died at birth. very sad.
yeah, that's kinda what I always thought...especially with the line about the first born son. Very sad song.
I think this song might be about abortion. I don't know.

Love this song! Love this band! Is innovative and original.
Who would write about a song which talks about miscarrige ? A son that was a hope for their parents and the self nature took him.
I agree...loss of a son. I almost lost my son at birth. I can totally relate to this song.
