Blue Flashing Light Lyrics
Saturday evening
Saturday evening
A quarter to five
Oh we see him arrive at the door
Pushed you aside as he staggered inside
Spitting alcohol over the floor
A storm is abrewing
It's sure to fall soon
As I look at you from the shore
So you'd better hold on
Cos it's Saturday night
And your friends are all out
And you feel like shit
Cos they never call you
No they never call you
No they never call, never call, never bloody ever...
Call me a name and I'll hit you again
You're a slut, you're a bitch, you're a whore
Talk to your daddy in that tone of voice
There's a belt hanging over the door
So you run to your room and you hide in your room
Thinking how you can settle the score
But it's a Saturday night and a quarter to six
And your friends are all out
But you live in the sticks
Still they never call you
No they never call you
No they never call, never call, never bloody ever call
Blue flashing light last Saturday night
Brought the neignbours all out on the street
Watched as the firemen carried you out
The we stared at each other's feet
Now everyone sees and yet nobody says
Are we all just afraid of the heat?
But it's Saturday night and I'm lying alone
In the bed that I made, disconnected the phone
Still they never called you
No they never call you
No they never call, never call, never bloody ever call

I think this song is about abuse, and how people tend not to want to get involved with abuse even when they know it's happening. I get this impression from the line 'Now everyone sees and yet nobody says Are we all just afraid of the heat?'
I think its about abuse... And how everyone's content to be on the outside, but they need all the information still... Nosy buns of snitches
i think this song is about a bitch that had had enough. well maybe she wouldnt be a bitch but she might be. but the girl was being beaten and she got pissed and evened the score by burning down the trailor and now shes in trouble while the guy is getting a even bigger trailor
Definitely a powerful song. Travis' lead singer, Fran has stated that this song scares the crap out of him when he's listening to the CD and forgets about it because it's hidden. I really like it and I agree with what violetzebras and Victory March said about being on the inside and/or outside standings of violence and abuse.
I agree with violetzebra's comment and thing that the idea of having this hidden on the album reflects the often hidden nature of abuse.
i think its hidden coz they didnt want a parental advisory sticker on their album. im not sure its soley about abuse, i think its just about all the shitty things that fran has gone through in one song. i know he didnt like his father who left the family when fran was very young, i think, anyway if u look in the album sleves he never thanks his father. it just sounds like he was pissed off one day and wrote this song.
I believe that I've read that the lead singers' mother was abused. I mean, it's obviously about abuse, and I think it's about people not stopping it and the impact that it has on the abused.
obviously about abuse and negligence...powerful stuff
Yea healy's mom was abused and kept taking her boyfriend (fran's step-dad ?) back even after he'd abused her again and again. That's also what "re-offender" is about.
I think it's about needing someone but having no one to be there for you. It's about how one person is in a struggle but no one is there to help him so he decides to end it all by ending the life of the one that causes his struggle
