Do You Mind? Lyrics
Do you mind if
I ask you a question?
Do you mind if
I swear not to hurt you?
Do you mind if
I don't piss on your bed?
Do you mind if
I bring her still with me?
Do you mind if
I forget and thank you?
Do you mind if
I juggle the meaning?
Do you care that
I only wear silver?
Do you care that
Set only stone?
Are you angry
The you I'm adopting
Is only a
Pretense at home?
Do you mind if
I make you wear earrings?
Like she did
Like you did before
Do you mind for
I think I still love you?
Do you mind?
Always have
Evermore

everybody should hear this song...the lyrics may be confusing...but it's just about a man seeking the approval of the girl he loved and lost and can't get back...or maybe he is a control freak who is just polite in his asking for her to be what he wants her to be..."do you mind if i make you wear earrings?" but then there seems to be the fact that he is still stuck on some other girl in his past and he's comparing the 2... either way, still a cool song..john's voice is so brutally honest and open and it's like he's just pouring his soul out to the one he loves and we are just lucky enough to get to listen....
I love this song and his voice makes you melt - I would love to hear Johns take on what this song means to him.
This song is about him wanting to change his new girl to reflect a lost love in the past, he wants to re-create her exactly as he remembers his old love
i though pretty mucht the exact same thing as brayden when i heard this song - i feel like his girlfriend died, so now he is trying to change his new girlfriend into her. there are still some lines that confuse me in this song: 'do you mind if i don't piss on your bed' - i don't understand the significance/importance and 'do you mind if i juggle the meaning' - i am wondering the meaning of what
"Do you mind if I don't piss on your bed"
"Do you mind if I don't piss on your bed"
He is asking if it's alright if she doesn't need to take care of him at all, almost like he doesn't want her to help him forget the past - he would rather keep it for himself.

I had a very different idea about the meaning to this song than the other comments. To me this was him singing to a child he is fostering/adopting, possibly from an abusive home. He is saying, "I know that you have grown to know a life where your caregiver hurts you, gets drunk (and pisses on their bed), is ungrateful, and does not love you, but do you mind if i do not do those things?" I think it is a very beautiful way of welcoming a child into your life, and asking their permission to help them. He asks if the child approves of him and what he wears and does. I take the line "Are you angry the you I'm adopting, Is only a pretense at home" literally. The definition of pretense is "an attempt to make something that is not the case appear true." He is saying " Are you angry that I try to pretend this is your home, even though you do not feel that is true" The last paragraph is a little harder for me to figure out, but I think that is becasue it is about a specific person. The last couple lines, however, are clear. "Do you mind for I think I still love you Do you mind Always have Evermore"
