Spiral Architect Lyrics
Sorcerers of madness selling me their time,
Child of God sitting in the sun giving peace of mind,
Fictional seduction on a black snow sky,
Sadness kills the superman even fathers cried.
Of all the things I value most of all
I look inside myself and see my world and know that it is good,
You know that I should.
Superstitious century, didn't time go slow?
Separating sanity, watching children grow,
Synchronated undertaker spiral skies,
Silver ships on plasmic oceans in disguise.
Of all the things I value most in life
I see my memories and feel their warmth and know that they are good,
You know that I should.
Watching eyes of celluloid tell you how to live,
Metaphoric motor replay, give, give, give!
Laughter, kissing, love is showing me the way,
Spiral city architect, I build, you pay.
Of all the things I value most of all
I look upon my earth and feel the warmth and know that it is good,
You know that I should,
You know that I should,
You know that I should,
You know that I should,
You know that I should.
Child of God sitting in the sun giving peace of mind,
Fictional seduction on a black snow sky,
Sadness kills the superman even fathers cried.
I look inside myself and see my world and know that it is good,
You know that I should.
Separating sanity, watching children grow,

Spiral city architect, I build, you pay.
I look upon my earth and feel the warmth and know that it is good,
You know that I should,
You know that I should,
You know that I should,
You know that I should,
You know that I should.

Something else in this song, the line "Spiral city architect, I build, you pay." seems like it also is with the whole God being the spiral architect, with humanity breaking off and building up its own beliefs, and God paying the price.
Also, just to actually add something constructive, I've always figured this to be God's view on the world.
God created everything, he was the original spiral architect (assuming the "Spirals" are indeed DNA)
Even though the world has changed a lot ("Watching eyes of celluloid", "Fictional seduction on a black snow sky."
Apparantly our only hope is love: "Laughter, kissing, love is showing me the way,"
This kind of message happens a lot in Sabbath songs. (A National Acrobat, Symptom of the Universe etc.)
They were all just hippies really ;)
@Denzil And, to expand on that, as our Sun travels through the Galaxy, the Earth follows in a spiral trajectory. Sabbath is DEEP! Whether they know it, or not. The spiral of DNA of humans was proven in 1962 so, Sabbath would've had this knowledge at the time of the writing. I recall a LIFE magazine cover in the 60's of the Helix. It's interesting that blokes in the 60's had to present their belief in our Creator, carefully, as to not upset the Darwinists of their generation, lest they be ridiculed. Imagine a...

I think that this song could be about, that even though you life (or maybe even the world) is screwed up, it's still good to be here. If it wasn't, there would be no reason to keep yourself from commiting suicide. "Sadness kills the superman, even fathers cry". It's allright to be sad. Just don't let it take over your life (Don't turn goth, hehe).
By the way Denzil, Dio sings like he's some kind of knight. Ozzy emits an agonised wail, when he sings. So when you listen to Dio singing Ozzy-era songs (eg. on the record Live Evil), it sounds wrong. Technically he's a much better singer than Ozzy (Ozzy can't sing - he learned it) but that's exactly what's wrong. The Dio-era songs are allright, but I don't think they belonged in Black Sabbath.
I want to end this with a story about this lyric. When the bassplayer Geezer Butler wrote it (he wrote almost every Ozzy-era lyric), he phoned Ozzy and read it to him, 'cause he thought it was good (which I agree with). When Geezer had finished the first stanza, Ozzy answered him: "Are you reading this sh*t from a book?" Marvelous geniouses, they were (and are).
Actually, Geezer Butler, the bassist wrote most of the lyrics until Ozzy left the band. But great lyrics either way.
great song ! i finally heard a live version of this song on the last supper cd. fantastic song !
Ozzy in Sabbath, as it should be!
even though the world has gone crazy he still loves his life.
"spiral architect" refers to DNA I think. Its about a person that was made from bad memories but still enjoys life.
doesnt this song seems to say that the guy is about to die and starts reminding of his life?
WOOOOOOOOOO
