Now the rain comes down the windows and it
Drops onto the forehead of the waiting boy
He surveys his rental kingdom and he
Wonders if he's really lost his joy

Another fool would go down to the
Only place she went to lose herself
She's gone to the movies now and she don't need your help

Now the rain turns into snowfall as the
City sky reflects the silver street below
And it covers up the cars and the Wall-
Flowers cd ended half an hour ago

Another fool would dig the broken car out from the snow
And drive to find the show
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming home
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming home

Now he looks around his place and anyways
There's nowhere she could sit besides the bed
And he wonders if the car will start tomorrow
Or he'll have to take the bus instead

Any other fool would be out on the roadway
Trying to spot her rusted Pontiac
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming home
She's gone to the movies now and she's not coming home

This song, to me, is very personal. As stellaluna1125 says so above, the movies is a place where one can be free and get lost in the plot. As this song progresses, the fact that shines is that the girl would rather be at the movies than be with him. Maybe it was cause of all the fights, or that the girl wanted something the boy could never be able to give her.

"Another fool would go down to the Only place she ever went to lose herself" ... [go down to the theatre to look for her] "Another fool would dig the broken car out from the snow And drive to find the show" ... [shows desperation to find the girl at the theatre] "Any other fool would be out on the roadway Trying to spot her rusted Pontiac" [standing outside, waiting for her to come back]

The 'fool' would be the romantic. Usually, girls fall for such things, but I guess this one doesn't. Or maybe, the fool is non-existant and that the boy never tried to do those things because he thought they'd do nothing when really they would've made a difference.

"Now he looks around his place and anyways There's nowhere she could sit besides the bed And he wonders if the car will start tomorrow Or he'll have to take the bus instead"

This is an interesting verse. The first two lines have a sense that the boy didn't have space for the girl in her life and that was what the girl needed. The second two lines confuse me a bit, but maybe it was just thrown in. ;) Anyway, this is a really good song.

And great job to Dan for mentioning the Wallflowers.

    1. FANTASTIC song.
    2. Simple approach to this song: This girl he likes no longer likes him, but he won't take the hint and leave her alone. He keeps following her, or calling her, when she's not interested. He's a "fool" for pursuing this girl that has no interest in him. The song suggests he should just forget her and move on. That is a shallow interpretation. About diggin the car out of the snow...shows he'll do anything to win her back, but she's not interested.

I think this song is about a girl who left a guy who seemed to like her but didn't really care. If he did care he'd be out trying to find her. it seems he clearly isn't that bothered she's gone cos even when he's left on his own lookin round his empty apartment all he's thinking about is if his car is going to start or he'll be taking the bus.

I love this song. Don't you ever jsut want to get lost in the movies, you can go to a placae where anything is possible, you can live forever and always have the happy ending tha tyou wanted. I feel the same way about music, you should be able to get lost in the things you love. Then there is just this fool, who keeps on trying to give this girl something he never can.

I don't quite understand this song. It all seems pretty straightforward until it gets to the "another fool" parts. The most I can guess is that he's sitting around thinking about the life he used to have and a) his girl died on the way to some place and he's just pretending she's at the movies and that she'll be back later b) she left him and isn't coming back and he's in denial about it, pretending (again) that she's at the movies.

The lyrics say "he wonders if he's really lost his one joy" so apparently his significant other has left him in some capacity. The lines about "another fool" suggest that he's in denial about reality and seem to say that these events have already happened.

I don't really get why he's called a fool, though. Nor do I how you can drive a "broken car" to "find the show". So it seems like the word "broken" is of some significance. The most puzzling lines to me are "And he wonders if the car will start tomorrow/Or he'll have to take the bus instead"

These are just some things to ponder. Can anyone shed any light?

I think the "another fool" part is referring to him in the past, maybe he went chasing after her many times before, and something's changed and he's no longer going to

I thought the that his wondering about the car starting was kinda self explanatory. If you look at things from his place, it seems like he gave up on love. Like he doesn't belive in miracles, (her coming back to him) anymore. So instead of his trying to win her back, he just says "screw it" and goes on about his life.

the girl likes to go lose herself in movies and is very spontanious and emotionally open. the boy is very calculated, literal minded and logical. this shows in his observations in the 3rd verse, starting "another fool..."

they're two very different characters.its why he could never give her everything she needs from a relationship and why they've parted.

it makes me tink of Jenny and Forest's relationship in Forest Gump.

i guess its easier to see if you can relate to it

one of my fav Semisonic tunes

Gone to the movies is codeword for the fact that his girl has left him. From the sounds of it, it would seem that it's not a rare thing, though; maybe it's something he tells him when she's going to see someone else, andhe comes to realize what the phrase really means.

Another fool, in all instances, would be out finding the girl. Maybe figuring out who she is with.

However, he is NOT a fool, and he can call it for what it is and knows better than to go and find where she is. Maybe she's left for the last time, and he knows that it's over.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
