Scream Of The Butterfly Lyrics

A creature made of sunshine
Her eyes were like the sky
Rabbit howls like something old
As we twitch to a lullaby
The scalpel shines in god''s sunshine
The Streetlights whisper pain
Down here near the poison stream
Our god has gone insane

She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
With blood on her hands
Into the sun she stares
She feels it die
I heard her cry

She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
With blood on her hands
Into the sun she stares
She feels it die
I heard her cry...
Like the scream of the butterfly

Sunshine in the house of flames
She loves it where she gets it
But it''s never felt the same
Surgery, in the house of dissection
When your candle burns out..I''ll resurrect you
She runs
Through fields of daisies
Yeah, it''s just a shame that they eat their own babies
Who cares
Cos the air is free
When you get there will you kiss the dead for me?

There''s blood on the moon and the summer is cold
There''s love in the room
But baby that''s getting old
There''s blood on my face sittin'' on uhh dead shore
A highway, highway of emptiness and I''m getting bored

There''s blood on the moon as we plan our escape
The goddess in bloom
Handcuffed and raped
There''s blood in the bathtub baby
Murder the king
There''s blood on the moon
There''s blood on just about everything

Sunshine in the house of flames
She loves it where she gets it
But it''s never felt the same
Surgery, in the house of dissection
When your candle burns out..I''ll resurrect you
She runs
Through fields of daisies
Yeah, it''s just a shame that they eat their own babies
Who cares
Cos the air is free
When you get there will you kiss the dead for me?

Something cold is forced inside her
A tears spill down her cheek
Stillborn songs of a dead dreamer
Hymn''s of a needle freak

With sunlight in her hair she smiles like she don''t care
Her dreams of liquid blue
I cut my self again and again to remind myself of you

She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
With blood on her hands
Into the sun she stares
She feels it die
I heard her cry...
She smiles like a child with flowers in her hair
With blood on her hands
Into the sun she stares
She feels it die
I heard her cry...
Like the scream of the butterfly
I like the scream of the butterfly

I met an angel with a sawed-off shotgun
Wanted by the FBI
We dropped some acid
Killed our parents
Then we hit the road

I like the scream of the butterfly

RabbitHowl definitely owned it. This song is NOT about abortion, but it IS about taking innocence from a child. The girl in the song is not Truddi Chase, as RabbitHowl suggested, but it is a girl who experienced the same abuse as Truddi. This girl was molested (probably by her father if you read the last lines of the song).

"She smiles like a child with blood on her hands" doesn't even make sense in reference to abortion. She was raped as a child, and reverts back to the abuse in her adult years. When he says "she feels it die" he is referring to her soul, not her baby.

"She runs through fields of daisies; yeah it's just a shame that they eat their own babies" is NOT saying she's eating her damn baby! She was permitted to frolic amongst the daisies as a child so long as she put up with the abuse. It is sarcasm, irony, which means he's NOT being literal.

@RecklessPiety it is about coat hanger abortion. The song does reference other aspects as it covers multiple things, but at the core it is about a coat hanger abortion. The lyrics from the original demo clarify it quite a bit.

i would just like to say that i dont think acid bath was necessarily pro-life or pro-choice, they are too classy to be that overtly political, or even political at all, i think the songs they write about abortion deal more with death in general as well as the effect death has on humanity

@butterfly_screams the lyrics above are the lyrics from the album when the kite string pops. The original lyrics are different. The song at its core is about coat hanger abortion.

Well there is stuff in this song that would imply it might be about abortion, ("yeah, it's just a shame that they eat their own babies") but I'm not certain that's what it's about. Some of it most definately is referances to Jim Morrison's lyrics. The title of this song is taken directly from "When the Music's Over" by the Doors. I think his talking about dropping acid and killing his parents is also a reference to Jim Morrison, whom often dropped acid, and spoke of killing his parents in the lyrics of "The End". There's definately a sexual tone to this song, but also obvious talk of drugs.

LSD. acid trip. this song refers to the poetics of jim morrison but is ingenius in a dax riggs way. dropping acid and killing your parents does not literally mean killing people. it means killing ideas/get born again/ break on through/forgetting what your parents taught you. scream of the butterfly is a trippy paradox in itself(butterflys obviously cannot scream). knowing more about the history of lsd and its pioneers helps understand much of this song. there is much more to the song too, ive only scratched the surface

you sir have ACTUALLY contributed something :)

"Hills Like White Elephants" is much more about a couple in the Lost Generation than it is about abortion. It doesn't have anything to do with this song.

Soo, I've been rereading the lyrics of this song for the last half-hour. Originally, I went with abortion--"something cold is forced inside," "she feels it die," etc. totally sounds like an abortion. But then, it doesn't fit with the rest of the song. So, as a whole, you get the picture that this girl has had a pretty shitty life. Her childhood was taken from her, so much so that Dax (or whoever wrote it) compares her to Truddi Chase. But the narrator is in the story as well, and the only thing he has to contribute about himself in the first half is "I'm getting bored."

So this guy and this chick are obviously together. He's dealing with all the horribleness of her past. Then she kills herself: "When your candle burns out, I'll resurrect you," "Surgery in the house of dissection," "When you get there will you kiss the dead for me?," "Something cold is forced inside her," "I cut myself again and again to remind myself of you," "With blood on her hands into the sun she stares," all of which are consistent with her stabbing herself. And then, with the last repetition of the chorus, he says "I met an angel with a sawed-off shotgun"--which could be her memory inspiring him to continue living a drug-filled life, or it could actually be a new woman, even more screwed up than the last, since he seemed to get bored of the last woman so quickly.

It could simply be a comment on something as trivial as relationships. When you hear hoofbeats . . .

Song Meaning

This was the first song I heard by them, and immediately loved. I initially thought it was about abortion, and while there are enough references to make it logical conclusion, the more I listen to it the less I think abortion has anything to do with it. Abortion and drug abuse are mentioned in almost every song the have. The most telling lines to me are in the bridge " Something cold is forced inside " and "hymns of the needle freak" "her dreams are liquid blue ". These are all descriptions of heavy drug abuse. The main theme of Truddi's story is abuse; Sexual, emotional, mental and drugs. That is the main theme here with " Scream of the Butterfly " as well. Abuse. It's also worth mentioning that the title came from an old exploitation film from the 60's. Jim Morrison also mentioned this movie in one of his songs.

@Ghostdog04 try God machine or Paegan Love Song out I have the file for When The Kitestring Pops too if u want it, I also have both albums complete on soundcloud since rotten Ron takes everything off yt
