I Feel Lyrics
I feel fine...
Don't wake me up yet
O the young & the old they get everything
& it's my turn
I'm here, I'm someone to know
I'm calling the tune but
I'm losing the words
Laughingly I take the fevered applause
Of the people by the riverside
I'm walking, walking on water
God knows why
I'm losing the words
I am a man
Well nearly
Celebrate life, be good to yourself
You're wrong, that's all wrong
Don't wake me like that
I was dreaming & I'd rather just carry on
Give me a love & hate on both my hands
I'll show you what I'm made of
Wasting my breath when I say that
You're wrong, that's all wrong
Don't wake me like that
I was dreaming & I'm tired of everyone
Here's hoping that you'll
Go now so long leave me alone
I'm better alone
Give me a love & hate on both my hands
I'll show you what I'm made of
Wasting my breath when I say that
Love hates
A pair of hands
That's where I began
Just be good, good to yourself
I feel fine
Don't wake me up yet
'cause I feel tired
Don't be like that
We don't need to work any more now
Open that ground up and slip down
Don't wake me up yet
O the young & the old they get everything
& it's my turn
I'm here, I'm someone to know
I'm calling the tune but
Laughingly I take the fevered applause
Of the people by the riverside
I'm walking, walking on water

this is one of my favorite all-time songs. i relate to it really well now that i'm about to graduate from high school. with the rise of the sundays after the issuing of "reading, writing, arithmentic" i tend to think this song has something to do with the vertigo of fame...doing something that seems so ordinary, like writing and singing a song, and then suddenly BAM you're sort of famous. (
This is one of the best songs ever recorded. Sometimes I picture a wedding when I hear this song. This plays at teh end of the wedding when the bride and groom kiss each other.
I'm not sure what this song is exactly about but i've just interpreted it is being about being tired of the rush of life. I look to the line "Oh the young and the old they get ev'ry thing and it's my turn" Children and Seniors get to relax and enjoy themselves while people in between have to get out there and work each and every day and I guess it can be tiring. It also feels like she feels entitled to something better in life with the whole "i'm here i'm someone to know" line. I dunno though just my take.
Credits are incorrect - should be Harriet Wheeler/David Gavurin.
Pretty sure that the line (which smacks you in the face with a gorgeous harmony on the record) is "Love, hate and a pair of hands, that's where I began" - one of the most concise yet beautiful descriptions of art in general (and songwriting in particular) I've ever heard.

I'm not sure what the song was about. At first I thought it was about someone peacefully dying. All I know it's one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life. Beautiful and deep. Harriet Wheeler is simply amazing. On the CD It's followed by "Goodbye" which is amazing in its own right. Talk about a 1-2 punch.
Sounds like the dreaded “Difficult Second Album” syndrome to me.
The thrill of the rise. The acclaim of that remarkable first album. The sell-out world tour. Time to relax and enjoy it.
But no… The “remarkably slow songwriting process”. The getting back up, getting motivated, getting back into the studio, getting back out on the road.
