Leaving Las Vegas Lyrics
Life srings eternal
On a gaudy neon street
Not that I care at all
I spent the best part of my losing streak
In an army jeep
For what I can't rcall
Oh I'm banging on my TV set
And I check the odds
And I place my bet
Pour a drink
And pull the blind
And wonder what I'll find
(Chorus)
Leaving Las Vegas
Lights so bright
Palm sweat, blackjack
On a Saturday night
Leaving Las Vegas
Leaving for good
Leaving for good
Used to be I could drive up to
Barstow for the night
Find some crossroad trucker
To demonstrate his might
But these days it seems
Nowhere is far enough away
So I'm leaving Las Vegas today
(Chorus)
I'm standing in the middle of the desert
Waiting for my ship to come in
But no joker, no jack, no king
Can take this losing hand
And make it win between
The things you want
And the things you have to do
(Chorus)
On a gaudy neon street
Not that I care at all
I spent the best part of my losing streak
In an army jeep
For what I can't rcall
And I check the odds
And I place my bet
Pour a drink
And pull the blind
And wonder what I'll find
Leaving Las Vegas
Lights so bright
Palm sweat, blackjack
On a Saturday night
Leaving Las Vegas
Leaving for good
Leaving for good
Barstow for the night
Find some crossroad trucker
To demonstrate his might
But these days it seems
Nowhere is far enough away
So I'm leaving Las Vegas today
Waiting for my ship to come in
But no joker, no jack, no king
Can take this losing hand
And make it win between
The things you want
And the things you have to do

Song is about getting away from the mess in your life. I live in Las Vegas, and I love to play this every time I leave town. So awesome.
There is a great line that I think is strong message for women not to depend on men to make things better for them:
no joker, no jack, no king, can take this losin' hand and make it win
translation- it's up to you to make things better for yourself. don't rely on a man to do it for you.
another of my theme songs these days! quite literally! ...I just moved from las vegas. I don't know, I have mixed feelings... I'd like to think leaving it will leave certain memories behind, but I realize I'm kidding myself. =P
you can take me outta las vegas but can you really take las vegas outta me? there's the magic question...
at least this song rocks ass.
this song is so cool. Cool sound.
Las Vegas is a nice place to visit, but a strange place to work everyday or to spend all your time :-)
"I\'m standing in the middle of the desert\nWaiting for my ship to come in"\n\nThis is both literal (people going to Las Vegas with dreams of getting rich) and figurative (standing still and expecting opportunity to come to you).\n\nIn so many ways, Las Vegas represents the artificiality of our daily lives, and the blinders so many of us wear just to get through the day.\n\nThe video\'s great too. Blackjack dealers, showgirls, and Flying Elvi.
