Messengers Lyrics

Late, I can stay up late In and out of bed Cleaning up the mess Trying to be honest 'cause I know I am on it In this the last time I speak of it the loyalties that have been broken Mine isn't dead One thing is true Nothing is sacred When everyone's talking and nobody's listening When we confide in all those friends they're just messengers One thing is true You throw the matters into blue skies turning to grey, falling out everyday One thing that's free I confide in you with the truth Late, I can stay up late In and out of bed Cleaning up the mess inside my head

Joey's talking about how he can trust this one friend and no one else because they can't keep anything he says secret. They're messengers to everyone else.

Spot on.

This song is about crystal meth. Staying up late, cleaning up messes both mentally and literally. "Trying to be honest 'cause I know I am on it" -- besides the fact that being "on it" is an obvious reference for those who do it... he's referencing how its easy to get overly zealous with ideas or conversations... you need to remember not to go too far. "everyone's talking and nobody's listening" -- heh, totally.

Er, I shouldn't say the song is about the drug itself, but rather a powerful introspective experience that comes from spending many hours or days awake on it.

The song "Love Story" and this(Messenger) are actually 2 songs in 1. They play back-to-back on the album, and EVERY Lagwagon concert I've been to they play both songs back-to-back as if it was one long song. In my opinion, Love Story is about Joey being in a love triangle with someone he loves, but cant let the cat out of the bag, cause its a sticky situation. Hes in a situation where he HAS to make a move towards his feelings, but hes going against his morals. This song(Messenger) is where hes trying to confide in friends, and they are all telling him things he doesn't want to here, or are threatening him in a way. He's sick of his friends, cause they're all going to play as drama queens and tell everybody whats going on, and he's only trying to confide in his feelings. He feels betrayed and hurt, but hes also in a sticky situation.

Listen to both songs back-to-back, and you'll realize.

Ok... What is song means to me is this: It's about a guy who cheated on his girlfriend. Told his friends "the last time i speak of it." His friends (the messengers) spread it around "nothing is sacred." Until his girlfriend found out. They try to make it work together, but she keeps bringing up his infidelity even when theyre having a good time together "You throw the matters into blue skies turning to grey, Falling out everyday." Thats what i think anyway...
