I Hate Danger Lyrics

I said I wanna come over
You said ok just come over
Your friends are all on the couch
Your friends said let's walk around
I'll pretend your friends are my friends
And kinda try not to offend them
But I won't let you see anything real
Let you know
There's limits to

I stopped talking an hour ago
I stopped talking an hour ago
I stopped talking an hour ago
I stopped talking an hour ago

It's a particular point of view
This group's dynamic caters to
It's a predictable point of view
I think you know when it caters to you

(And if you do know don't act like you don't
cause it's really annoying
and if you don't know, well
let's just say you're a lot, lot stupider than I thought.)

I'll pretend your friends are my friends
But I don't wanna hear you defend them
In fact that kind of insults me
And I kinda don't really wanna be here right

I stopped talking an hour ago
I stopped talking an hour ago
I stopped talking an hour ago
I stopped talking an hour ago
Ago

Ok your whole thing put me in negative space for way too fucking long
The only thing I managed to say during that time was
I hate danger
What I really should have said was
You're so not dangerous
You're so not what you say you are at all

This is one of my favorite songs.

To me, it reminds me of sitting in a room of a bunch of privileged straight white boys, which I've done voluntarily too much lately for a certain privileged straight white boy. They don't get me or my experiences, their entire culture is oblivious to my EXISTENCE and the issues I face. I try and speak up about the things they say but it becomes too much, I'm singled out and they use their power to silence me. I stopped talking an hour ago...

exactly, I totally agree with you Shanayy, and how boring and tough they are 'you're so not dangerous, you're so not what you say you are at all'

This is probably not what the song is about, because it seems like the song is an anecdotal experience. But when I hear the final lines, coupled with the song title, it feels very liberating in terms of not letting others scare you or intimidate you, when they're all talk. Like, for example, a guy or partner who is verbally/emotionally abusive - they might talk a good game to intimidate/ coerce you, but when you finally realize that they're full of shit and can see through them - to not be afraid of them anymore is super freeing.

This song is about hanging out with some guys and starting to feel like you're in a dangerous situation. It's about the possibility of rape, being afraid, and being mad at your boyfriend because he's just going along with it, and pretends not to know.

I like the way she sings "I stopped talking an hour ago." It seems to perfectly capture that moment where one random thought starts repeating itself over and over in your head. I can feel myself in a corner of the room thinking that when she sings that line.

Also, I don't think about it's a fear of rape or being physically harmed, but frustration at being in a silencing environment when those who should be standing up for you don't.

yr all kinda right. but it can be anyone. like someone yr friends with and the rest of their friends 'cater to that particular point of view", and they only really want you when you have something to offer them. when they want something from you. and they put on this front, to be something they're not. and this friend is frustrated cuz they see it & they want more, bettter. for them and their friend. & don't bother trying to defend them, she'll just roll her eyes at you.
