Joan Crawford Lyrics

Junkies down in Brooklyn are going crazy
They’re laughing just like hungry dogs in the street
Policemen are hiding behind the skirts of little girls
Their eyes have turned the color of frozen meat

No, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave

Catholic schoolgirls have thrown away their mascara
They chain themselves to the axles of big Mack trucks
The sky is filled with herds of shivering angels
The fat lady laughs, “Gentlemen, start your trucks!”

No, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave

Christina
Mother’s home No, no, no, no
Christina No, no, no, no, no, no
Come to mother No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Christina No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave

Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
Joan Crawford has risen

Um, no Figuroa. Christina was the little girl Joan Crawford [movie star from the late -20s to -50s] had adopted (along with a little boy). After Joan's death in the late -70s, the adult Christina wrote a novel, "Mommie Dearest", that was about growing up in the Crawford house and being subjected to verbal and physical abuse from Joan. It was later made into a movie in the -80s. I think parts of this song are about Christina's torment ("Catholic schoolgirls throw away their mascara" - there was a part in the novel where Christina had to live in a convent because she was caught making out with a boy at her private school, and Joan insisted she be locked away, if I remember correctly) The last half of this song from the "Christina" whisperings is pretty self-explanatory - Joan acted like a monster that Christina feared. The first half however, is just plain ol' BOC goodness :)

This song was written by Albert Bouchard and someone else not in BOC (I forget who) during a difficult time in one of AL's marriages. The guys were up all night working on another song and Al's wife came in and read them the riot act. The guy working with Al said something to the extent of "Joan Crawford has risen from the grave" in reference to Al's wife.

The basis for the song anyway. What it means to me is that the biatch lives.

Joan Crawford was a very famous and rich actress, when she died her oldest children (both adopted and in their 40s by then) were left out of her will with the reasoning that "they know why" in Crawford's will. Shortly after that Christina Crawford released a memoire called Mommie Dearest, in which she tarnished Joan Crawford's image and that of many of her friends as being abusive to her as a child. Many people corroborated her version of the events while others claimed it was exaggerated. On BÖC's version of the events the corpse of Joan Crawford is resurrected to claim vengeance on Christina.

This almost sounds like a Jim Steinman song (wrote much of Meat Loaf's better known songs, and many others) with the heavy piano and metaphorical lyrics.

I know he had nothing to do with it, but still interesting.

I'm pretty sure it is about Joan Crawford coming back to haunt her daughter who was disobedient. Joan Crawford was accused by Christina Crawford (adopted daughter) of beating Christina as a child.

Crawford died from a heart attack in 1977 in New York, New York. I don't know where she was buried etc.
