In Thee Lyrics
Maybe I'll see you again, baby, and maybe I won't
Maybe you bought your ticket, gone back to Detroit
Aeroplanes make strangers of us all
Give us distance much too easily
Jim says some destinies should not be delivered
But you and I see now, baby, that still they are
Winning it makes losers of us all
Cause the dice roll so indifferently
Well I'll wrap myself in cities I've traveled
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
Tonight it's hot, without you tomorrow'll be cold
Winter will come along driven by snow
Love it makes strangers of us all
When we fall oh so thoughtlessly
Well I'll wrap myself in cities I've traveled
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
Once we breathed the breath of sweet surrender
Pure, pure air of air filled our atmosphere
But pride it makes stars of us all
until we fall for everyone to see
So I'll wrap myself in cities I've traveled
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in strangers' arms
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
I'll wrap myself in cities I've traveled
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
Maybe you bought your ticket, gone back to Detroit
Aeroplanes make strangers of us all
Give us distance much too easily
But you and I see now, baby, that still they are
Winning it makes losers of us all
Cause the dice roll so indifferently
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
Winter will come along driven by snow
Love it makes strangers of us all
When we fall oh so thoughtlessly
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
Pure, pure air of air filled our atmosphere
But pride it makes stars of us all
until we fall for everyone to see
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in strangers' arms
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
But I wish I could wrap myself in thee

I believe it was written by Allen Lanier for his recently departed long-term girlfriend Patti Smith, hence "...gone back to Detroit" which was where her next boyfriend, then husband Fred Smith was based with the MC5. I may be wrong though....
Jim says some destinies Should not be delivered
This refers to Jim Carroll (from his song "Day and Night") Alan Lanier played keyboards on Jim's first album and Jim later wrote the lyrics to BOC's "Perfect Water"
Beautiful song and some their most straight forward lyrics
about travel and seeing different people/experiences had alone... we all change and sometimes lose our place in the life we are living... the song expressing I wish I could wrap myself in thee... I think its about enjoying your own company and not about anyone or anything else.
This is one of my favorite love songs ever...it's really quite beautiful and one of BOC's best, if you ask me.
The meaning to me is one that's maybe too obvious...I suppose it's merely the story of a man and his lost love who decided to leave him. The two shared a close relationship that this man didn't want to end.
He wishes he could see her...hold her...again. But he realizes that perhaps he'll never see her again.
That's how I've always seen it. I'm not sure about her leaving him, however that is one interpretation. It could also be that he was called away for business or military reasons. It could also be a tale of touring life and the loved ones lost through it.
nice song here BOC have a knack of making lasting songs
Yeah, I think its about being away on the road and looking forward to being together
