Mojo Pin Lyrics

I'm lying in my bed, the blanket is warm
This body will never be safe from harm
Still feel your hair, black ribbons of coal
Touch my skin to keep me whole

If only you'd come back to me
If you laid at my side
Wouldn't need no mojo pin
To keep me satisfied

Don't wanna weep for you, don't wanna know
I'm blind and tortured, the white horses flow
The memories fire, the rhythms fall slow
Black beauty I love you so

Precious, precious silver and gold
And pearls in oyster's flesh
Drop down we two to serve and pray to love
Born again from the rhythm screaming down from heaven
Ageless, ageless and i'm there in your arms

Don't wanna weep for you, don't wanna know
I'm blind and tortured, the white horses flow
The memories fire, the rhythms fall slow
Black beauty i love you so

The welts of your scorn, my love, give me more
Send whips of opinion down my back, give me more
Well it's you i've waited my life to see
It's you i've searched so hard for

Don't wanna weep for you, i don't wanna know
I'm blind and tortured, the white horses flow
The memories fire, the rhythms fall slow
Black beauty i love you so

Ok people this is what Jeff said about Mojo Pin - "Sometimes if somebody you feel you need... the whole universe tells you that you have to have her, you start watching her favorite TV shows all night, you start buying her the things she needs, you start drinking her drinks, you start smoking her bad cigarettes, you start picking up her nuances in her voice, you sleep in safe sometimes the most dangerous thing... this is called Mojo Pin." (Astoria, London, UK, 18/01/95)

Hmm....that Buckley. He was a mysterious one.

Well,
Im not too sure about this.. its kinda late and my story may be skewed When jeff was young He got his first guitar. Later in life that guitar was stolen.
The guitar was a Black Gibson Les Paul Custom commonly known as a "black beauty" (seriously, look it up on ebay). Now. Anyone who knows about gibson two pickup guitars knows that to switch to the rhythm pick up. you switch the toggle knob up...and for the screamin treble pickup...you switch down...Born again (rise up?) from the rhythm screaming down from heaven. OK. The Gibson Les Paul was "anointed" in gold and silver with pearl inlay in the neck...Precious, precious silver and gold And pearls in oyster's flesh...

Look... I know all of this seams far fetched but...IF the rumors of jeff writing this song while all screwed up on herion or whatever the rumors are... maybe this is what was in his subconsious...or maybe he just really missed the guitar (which i belive he found another just like it around the time of the mystery white boy tour) and decided to embelish the thought of having it back... OR maybe its just the only Buckley coinsidence that has nothing to do with Death by drowning in a river...

blah blah blah amazing song Jeff... Happy Birthday -love mike

Wow, I think you've read way too much into this. Way too much. I think the "Dream Brother" biography states that Jeff said the song was partly about a dream he had in which he saw a black woman shooting heroin between her toes. I think it's obvious that the other part is about his relationship with Rebecca Moore. The "black ribbons of coal", in regards to hair, is about her. This song was written during their tumultuous relationship.

Apparently he really drank a lot, hahaha

Jeff Buckley was not an addict of any kind, unless music counts.

He openly admitted to doing drugs, but he was not a "druggie".

what ever the fukin songs about some of you guys need to stop saying 'this song is about..' cus some of the shite your coming out with really sucks

Jeff wasn't a druggie. He drank some, but he wasn't an alcoholic, and he didn't really drink until his 20's. He smoked pot, yes, and did it with some frequency, but he wasn't a pothead. He wasn't a druggie. He experimented while on tour, but considering his hatred for his father, he didn't want to get INTO drugs and die like Tim. He only tried heroin once or twice. He wasn't an addict, and what he DID do, he hated himself for. He realized that that stuff got in the way of his aims as a musician.

Also, the song is about a dream that Jeff had back when he was working with Gary Lucas and his band, as others have commented. The person's using heroin in the absence of a lover.

hey sin...so just wondering, where do you get your sources...i would love yo know, not that i dont believe you or anything, just really would like to know

@israeligold

I heard and read that a couple of times too. One was in this BBC documentary. They say the same here about Buckley's aversion to drugs http://youtu.be/afl8eCjN5FU 'Everybody Here Wants You' (2002)

He definitely tried it at one point but wasn't an addict per se.

If you guys would read "Dream Brother", you'd know. It's stated in this book that Jeff told Rebecca Moore (his on-off gf) that this song was about a dream he had in which a black woman was seen shooting heroin between her toes.

I believe this song is about masturbation and the fantasy of a woman he wants.

I'm lying in my bed The blanket is warm

[that's the general location for this activity, right? ;) ]

This body will never be safe from harm

[euphemism for "beating" it]

If only you'd come back to me If you laid at my side Wouldn't need no mojo pin To keep me satisfied

[If only you were here i wouldn't need to masturbate to facilitate the connection i need with you.]

Don't want to weep for you, don't want to know

[I don't want to pine for you, don't want to know why you're not here]

I'm blind and tortured, the white horses flow The memories fire, the rhythms fall slow

[the white horses are semen, the memories are the basis of the fantasy, and the rhythms are the cadence of strokes]

Black beauty I love you so

[possibly "black" beauty because she represents the dark unrequited love that tortures him]

Precious, precious silver and gold and pearls in oyster's flesh

[the fantasy continues..."precious" to him, like these minerals. Also, "pearl in an oyster's flesh" could be a euphemism for the clitoris]

i think once you have the masturbation metaphor in your mind, it's pretty easy to see how the rest of the lyrics coincide with my theory. Most of Buckley's songs are about love and how he tries to capture those moments with his music...I may be wrong, but now I can't listen to this song without thinking about this act that is so delicate and vulgar at the same time.

:)

What is a mojo pin?

as far as my understanding goes, mojo pin refers to a heroin needle, as it gives you 'mojo' there is also another couple references to heroin in the song " the white horses flow" - white horse is a common street name for heroin.

overall i think this song is telling the story of loosing the woman he loves, sympolised through the colour black "black ribbons of coal" and also "black beuty i love you so" - and hes replacing her with heroin (which is obviouly white) in contrast to his love for her.

the song is a euphemism for "a dropper full of smack that you shoot into your arm" as jeff said once...
