I Don't Like the Drugs (But the Drugs Like Me)

This is way cool. For those people who can't see past the surface of anything, this song is about marilyn mansons addiction to drugs. ha but really. it's a bash on people who are "raised to be stupid, and taught to be nothing at all" everone who is just "normal" has a norm life (baby).
"we're white and oh so hetro. our sex is missionary" any normal white person is DEFINATLY straight. ask him and he'll deny sort of homosexualism that may run through him. and any sort of sodomy is unheard of to him. missionary only. ha "we're quitters and we're sober." we HAVE to stop smoking. stop using drugs. we HAVE to be sober. Then, when we are, we can go on tv and talk about it.

I think that the part "you and I are underdosed and we're ready to fall" is about manson himself. and whoever the 'you' is to. (probably fans, lovers, anyone who doesn't have a norm life) we're not high enough. we're being pulled into sobriety by all the stupid, nothing, normal people. The coolest thing about mansons lyrics (in my opinion) is how well he can use drugs as metaphors. this song pretty much has nothing to do with drugs. it's more about people. but, he uses drugs as a cover up so it shocks those normal people into what they think now ("manson is a bad person who only preaches drugs, sex, violence and suicide") the moral of this song; don't strive to be normal. raise yourself to be smarter, if you're only being raised to be stupid. and teach yourself to be something, if society and teachers only tell us we're going to be nothing.

that's just what i take from the song.

IMO this song is about how boring society is and how everyone's taught to be the same.

We're not "drugged" up enough to do what people want us to. We're raised to believe lies, and taught that we can't do anything.

You have to be "normal", follow everyone else to be famous.

He's comparing God to drugs while saying that drugs fill his soul rather than God, and he's feeling fine.

This song, in particular, glorifies the abuse of drugs and justifies it through his "rebellious" attitude toward the system. Its especially nihilistic among the other 6 in this group, being defeatist and pessimistic in a kind of "might-as-well" kind of message and giving ascent to drugs as the only thing people can resort to in order to escape from their problems.

There before he sings the song, he says: "...and it was soo beautiful that God came down from heaven.He said to me Marilyn Manson we will no longer spell the word GOD G-O-D.I said how do you wanna spell it God?He said gimme a D,gimme a R, gimme a U, gimme a G gimme an S!And what does that spell?DRUGS!" And when he sings i don't like the drugs, but the drugs like me. It think that this Intro means:i don't like the GOD but the GOD likes me.Just a thought anyway...

This is probably my favourite of all of Manson's songs, though more for meaning than for content. One note: I think Manson sings the word "our" prior to "God" when the second verse begins. In any case, the song is a statement about the hypocrisies present in mainstream society ('Norm Life Baby: We're white and oh so hetero and our sex is missionary'...'Our God is white and unforgiving', etc.. Beyond that though, I love the way that he uses drugs as a symbol for that which is thrust down the throats of people who become of the lower tiers of society (raised to be stupid, taught to be nothing at all). Although drugs in the story could be a literal escape from hypocrisy, I view them as figurative, standing for that which is forced to be swallowed by the disenfranchised of society. Any other ideas?
