Something to Believe In Lyrics
I believ that reality's gone
Disilusion's real
I believe that moralities gone
And there's nothing to feel
If you take the sacred things
The things we hold dear
Empty promis is all you'll find
So give me something
Something to believe in
I Belive in the changing of the guard
Put our feet on the groud
See it happen in you're oun backyard
Everything breaks down
Do you except what you are told
Without even thinking
Throw it all and make your oun
And give me something
something to beleive in
Were they lead
You will fallow
I guess thats just the way it goes
And if you look away
You'll be doing what they say
And if you look alive
You'll be singled out and tried
If you take home any thing
Let it be you're will to think
The mor cynical you become
The better off you'll be
Disilusion's real
I believe that moralities gone
And there's nothing to feel
The things we hold dear
Empty promis is all you'll find
So give me something
Something to believe in
Put our feet on the groud
See it happen in you're oun backyard
Everything breaks down
Without even thinking
Throw it all and make your oun
And give me something
something to beleive in
You will fallow
I guess thats just the way it goes
And if you look away
You'll be doing what they say
And if you look alive
You'll be singled out and tried
If you take home any thing
Let it be you're will to think
The mor cynical you become
The better off you'll be

Description of society condensed into one short song. Fucking brilliant.
only 1 comment? jesus! this is by far (in my opinion) the best offsring song! simply amazing.
It's about people who just kind of accept religion the way it is and don't actually try to think about their situation. You don't have to be an athiest to live by this song though, which I think they tried to imply. They mearly want you to sit back and really look at what you believe it, trash it all and come up with a new set of beliefs based entirely on what you believe life should be about.
I always believed this should be true. If you find that you believe in God, that's fine, if you don't, that's fine too, but to simply say you do or don't because it seems like it's the way everyone is going isn't right. I don't know how many people I know are athiests just because they wanted to look smart.
I think this song is probably more about society then God, but i guess it can have more thenone interpretation. Either way, this song is fucking amazing! "The more cynical you become the better of you'll be" - so true!
Empty promis is all you'll find should be hands of crime is all you'll find, just give me something to believe in
iguit, check Offspring.com or the CD insert. Or, better yet, listen to the song. The line is clearly "Empty promise is all you'll find"
It's not just about religion, but science and everything that's happening.
Woah, I've been listening to this song for a long time before listening to the lyrics. It caught my attention with the last line,
The more cynical you become The better off you'll be
That perfectly summarizes my life. This whole song does. I agree with slag and what he said. Be cynical, be doubtful, question everything in life and form your own goddamn thoughts and opinions.
The whole last verse speaks to me.
Where they lead You will follow I guess thats just the way it goes
Don't be a sheep. Make up your own mind.
And if you look away You'll be doing what they say And if you look alive You'll be singled out and tried
But in making up your own mind, you might get questioned for it. That's society for you, but who cares? Speak out.
The Offspring have really impressed me this time. This song has been under my nose for too long to have not noticed this.
I've been thinking the same thing Windu. I'm studying philosphy in my Humanities class and I just noticed how this song is basically about philosophy (which I would define as the critical examination of life).
