Fa Fa Lyrics

when you look in the mirror
wish you were somebody else
But its just a reflection
you and no one else
you've been waiting for hours
you've been waiting for days
you've been waiting for someone
who never ever came
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
never be the same again
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
never be the same again
you were always saying something
you swear you'd never say again
you were always saying something
you swear you'd never say again
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
never be the same again
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
never be the same again
so you run through the hallways
and you run through the doors
and it's gotten you nothing
back where you were before
When you look in the mirror
wish you were somebody else
But it's still your reflection
you and no one else
you were always saying something
you swear you'd never say again
you were always saying something
you swear you'd never say again
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
never be the same again
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
never be the same again
never find your way home
no matter where you go
you'll never find your way home
no matter where you go

I think this song is about someone who always thought that they would be a better person when they got older. Now that they are older, they are not the person they thought they would be. Their regret about this is very apparent.

"so you run through the hallways/and you run through the doors/and it's gotten you nothing/back where you were before" - they try to escape from being this person they become but they always end up the same anyway.

"you've been waiting for someone who never ever came " - the "someone" is the person they hoped to be. Instead of trying to become this person, they simply waited for it to happen but obviously it didn't. There are plenty more examples, but if you agree with me then I'm sure you can figure them out for yourselves. Peace.

@thejames Uh...what?

"when you look in the mirror wish you were somebody else But it's still your reflection you and no one else..."

i can relate to that so much.

this makes me so sad. "never find your way home/no matter where you go/you'll never find your way home/no matter where you go" thats so depressing. i think its about being insecure and trying to find who you really are. its hard. i can relate.

I've always thought that this song reflected the ultimate insecurity and lack of self confidence that causes someone to just try and escape themselves and be someone else. However, I see the final line as saying that when you try to be someone else, you'll never fit in where you did before. It also makes it seem like once you change yourself, i's permanent and nomatter how hard you try you won't be able to go back to who you were before, whether you would like to or not.

I know a lot of people who think this song is about eating disorders. Personally I don't think that's the band's intended meaning, but it fits perfectly:

I guess the part about looking in the mirror is pretty self-explanatory. But beyond that, the part about "waiting for someone who never ever came"--that could be the "perfect reflection," which you are never able to see no matter how thin you get. And there's so much about the repeated attempts to escape: the "run through the hallways..." verse, and the idea of "saying something you swear you'll never say again." As in, "OK, that's it, I'm never going to purge (or whatever) again."

I think the saddest part is, "Never be the same again..." because it's true. You can recover, more or less, you can gain weight and act reasonably normal, but hardly anyone is ever really able to get rid of the ED thoughts completely.

This was the first song of Guster's I've heard and I immediately fell in love with this band

The music video is really funny. I don't think it was supposed to but it was anyway.
