I have to say that this song, like all really good songs he wrote, has multiple possible meanings. I disagreed that it's absolutely about being dope sick, although that's how people who've been heroin addicts might see it. I suffer from intense depression, and I have days like he described without being on medication. Also, even w/medication, sometimes--just like describes--I don't want to the the "responsible" things/positive things OR the negative ones (getting high on whatever). The song could easily be just about "Everyone leave me the *&^% alone! I just want to hide in my room and sleep all day!"
