I think that i can def. relate to this song. I love the part where she says "In my mind, everything we did was right." It's so fusterating when a relationship reaches the point of of "now or never". She's saying that she doesn't want to be alnoe, but that she'll always be by his side no matter what happens. She knows that things have changed and she doean't have him wrapped around her finger anymore. And she thinks that she can change but she knows she'll never really be good enough for what he deserves.

Wow I got something different out of the song. It sounds like a song about a guy who loves this girl who is incapable of love, she cuts him off when she starts to fall. He hopes that she can change but he knows and she knows that she will never change, she will always be emotionally guarded and afraid and he will always be needy. It also seems like something happened the night before maybe she let herself love him truly for a while then rationalized herself out of it (I do this to myself all the time). Maybe she tried to open up to him and he saw something he did not like or maybe she did. In the end their codependency makes the one in the same, he needs to "help" her and she needs to "help" him.

wow i got something WAY different out of it. it seems like its about a love triangle. a guy falls for someone completely different than the girl whos already fallen for him. The girl who's fallen used to have him wrapped around her finger and maybe he told her they were moving to fast or something..."In my mind Everything we did was right" but yeah the other girl is just keeping the guy on the scene just so she's not alone. The girl who loves the guy can do nothing but wait until he comes around. i mean i can TOTALLY relate to this song, its EXACTLY what's going on with me right now. but yeah that's what it means to me.

Hehe...I agree with Eggos=yum on this one, but a bit differently. I think that she keeps her emotions bottled and then the night before she let some of that leak out. Still, he kept by her, but she thinks that he doesn't want her anymore. He hopes that she will change her mind and stay in his life, giving him both sides of her. I don't know. I think I got kind of lost in my train of thought.

just reading it , i thougth it had to do with a love triangle... theres this one superficial girl who's just stringing the guy along ("She's his yellow brick road Leading him on And letting him go as far as she lets him go Going down to nowhere"). meanwhile. i think theres a 2nd girl who's still in love with this guy... they went out but they broke up for whatever reason and then she realizes that shes still head over heels for this guy. Maybe they were best friends and this girl whos in love with him knows that he's going after the wrong girl.
so the "dont leave me now" could be like 'don't leave me behind for this new girl" ya know?

either way. michelle branch said she writes love songs because everyone can relate to them, and everyone that's posting here may have a different idea of the song, but the point is you're relating somehow, and that's the important thing. :)

I like Michelle Branch because of her songwriting abilities. She allows the listener to interpret the songs into their own way. I think this song is about knowing that the worst decisions are for the best. Like the relationship went faster than she wanted but she still cares about him and will "still be by [his] side". I dunno, I'm not good at this. LoL

I think it's about a girl and a guy who had sex for the first time and thinks everything will be the same after, but maybe started to regret it and then she realizes that even though their relationship has changed she still really cares about him and wants their relationship to keep growing

To me, this songs' meaning is blantently obvious. Its not about 2 girls -as stated- but rather 2 guys. There's a girl in this song who is torn between the guy shes with, and the guy shes in love with...she just can't show it because she's already in a relationship. This girl leads the guy she loves on because she doesn't ever want to lose his love. The guy is aware of this, but he's held on for so long hoping she would change. Eventually, the guy she's with finds out about what it going on between the two. They are still together because she feels that is what's right, but really, she doesn't want this other boy to leave her and give up on her love. Now she's in too deep, and realizes that she did everything wrong and doesn't want him to "leave her now." Maybe this only makes sense to me, because right now, I love "him" but..."you" gave me something to sleep to. And in my mind, everything we did was right. Open your eyes, I'll still be by your side. How could I ever have been so blind?

I think Michelle Branch falls for a "taken" guy. He's not happy in his relationship, and she sees the way he's treated with his girlfriend. And, a spark, perhaps more, occurs between michelle and the guy. This is afterwards, when Michelle doesn't regret anything they've done together - saying it was all for the better. He's the one she wants.. and she'll wait as long as it takes.

This song means so much to me. It totally describes the situation between my boyfriend and i when we first got together, and then later broke up. When i broke up with him i didn't really think it would matter that much to me, but i was really blind to the fact that i was seriously in love with him. but yeah so i realized i loved him but thought i couldn't have him...but nooww we're back together so YAY. ahh i love this song. It's not really my style of music but this song means so much to me!!
