Dreaming comes so easily
'Cause it's all that I've known
True love is a fairy tale
I'm damaged, so how would I know
I'm scared and I'm alone
I'm ashamed
And I need for you to know
I didn't say all the things that I wanted to say
And you can't take back what you've taken away
'Cause I feel you, I feel you near me
I didn't say all the things that I wanted to say
And you can't take back what you've taken away
'Cause I feel you, I feel you near me
Healing comes so painfully
And it chills to the bone
Will anyone get close to me?
I'm damaged, as I'm sure you know
There's mending for my soul
An ending to this fear
Forgiveness for a man who was stronger
I was just a little girl, but I can't go back
'Cause it's all that I've known
True love is a fairy tale
I'm damaged, so how would I know
I'm ashamed
And I need for you to know
And you can't take back what you've taken away
'Cause I feel you, I feel you near me
And you can't take back what you've taken away
'Cause I feel you, I feel you near me
And it chills to the bone
Will anyone get close to me?
I'm damaged, as I'm sure you know
An ending to this fear
Forgiveness for a man who was stronger
I was just a little girl, but I can't go back

I believe this song is about rape & the effect it has on women.
This song i can relate to. It is about a little girl that was molested and/or raped and she is still coping and healing years later due to being violated and (damaged); Trying to mentally deal with something that stays with you forever. SARAH MCLACHLAN did an excellent job on vocals. Plumb couldnt have picked a better vocalist to do this song.

This song was written by frontwoman Tiffany Lee (née Arbuckle) about a girl coping with being molested as a child. In 2000 Lee decided that she wanted to leave the music industry. A few hours before what she thought to be her final concert she received a note from a girl, which said "'Whatever you do, I just want you to never forget that you have changed someone's life." The note inspired Tiffany to remain in the music industry and in 2003 she signed to Curb Records as a solo artist, but still recording under the name Plumb.

I believe that this song is about a girl that is in a relationship and has to explain to her boyfriend what happened to her when she was younger (being raped) and is now still healing, maybe even years later, but needs someone to understand her and stick by her.

I didn't say all the things that I wanted to say And you can't take back what you've taken away .... DOES N-E ONE RELATE... :(
this song hits me as a song about the abuse of a young girl by her father/stepfather, maybe im taking it that way because it reminds me of my stepfather but i think its about a child being sexually abused
Hey, I agree that it's about rape and such, but I think the line,
"You can't take back what you've taken away"
Is about her virginity being stripped from her, it was not planned, nor was it special like it should be. Many girls have had this happen, and the effects are with you almost you're whole life; I doubt she would willingly give herself to another man, hence the name "Damaged"
This is just my interpretation, though.
I also think this is about rape, it fits perfectly into this context if u think about it... it's really sad, but it's a really good song too*
The reason I think this song to be about rape is because when I was little, I was raped and I can hardly remember, and all I can feel is hatred for whoever did it, and a feeling that true love does not exist, that the ability to have healthy love was stolen from me. I can't get back what he took away (hence that line), and still now, I can always, always feel him near me even if he isn't.
I was listening to this when I was just being dumped and feeling damaged, then I saw Brokedown Palace and this song appeared in the movie.I still consider this song as one of my brokenhearted tunes.
i agree i think it is about rape.but idk..for some reason it gives me like a feeling with the verse "Forgiveness for a man who was stronger I was just a little girl, but I can't go back" that it was like a father/father figure who was the rapest but thats just my interpretation.i love the remix of it
