77 Satellites Lyrics

It's allright to be held back by retro-man.
it's far fetched fun when you're the one.
The prize.
I knew you would come through.
I thought I could be right, number one,
but it's a lie.
It's televised in forest green.
it's been brought back by retro-man.
Hold your thoughts in.
It ain't yet over.
You won't slide under me.
The prize.
I knew you would come through.
I thought I could be right, number one,
but it's a lie.

haha, these could be the lamest lyrics I've ever read in my life. I think Jimmy Eat World just wrote things that would sort of go with the music. Oh well, this song is definitely from a time when JEW lyrics meant absolutely nothing. Plus Jim's voice sounds really weird in this song. Comparable maybe to Episode IV but even a little more weird than that...

I see it as referring to a battle for first place and the unevitable loss of the songwriter to his/her opponent. "Televised" could be saying that many people know about the battle and "in green" could refer to the the prize (money, possibly). I don't know, all in all a very general song.

The lyrics from "77 Satellites" by Jimmy Eat World appear to touch on themes of competition, expectation, and perhaps the influence of the past or nostalgia ("retro-man"). The repeated reference to being "held back by retro-man" could symbolize being influenced or constrained by past traditions or old ways of thinking.
