Love
Bleed in your own light
Dream of your own life
I miss me
I miss everything I'll never be
And on, and on

I torch my soul to show the world that I am pure
Deep inside my heart
No more lies

A crown of horns
An image formed deformed
The mark I've borne
A mark of scorn to you

Consume my love, devour my hate
Only powers my escape
The moon is out the stars invite
I think I'll leave tonight

Soon I'll find myself alone
To relax and fade away
Do you know what's coming down
Do you know I couldn't stay free?

I shall be free
I shall be free
I shall be free
I shall be free
Free, free
Free of those voices inside me
I shall be free
I shall be free

I have a feeling this is about being haunted by your own past, and how you want to be free from your demons.

The search for individuality within the necessity of others is very difficult... but there is hope. thats what this says to me.

I miss me I miss everything I'll never be

These two lines sum up the whole meaning of the song.

Billy wrote this song about a time machine that was shaped like a rocket.

It was in this time rocket that Billy was able to view and meet his possible future selves.

Billy became great friends with some of his future Billy's—the one that ended up marrying Courtney Love, for instance.

This is why he says that he misses himself and misses who he'll never be. Eventually he had to ultimately decide on one future path and stick to it.

This song always puts me in a good mood, inspires me and makes me defiant and positive. I think it's the chant "I shall be free, I shall be free free, Free from these voices inside of me" As though I'm shutting out my own self doubt, not giving voice to my negativity. One of my favorites.

i think this song is about a person who has realized that he will never be happy. that even at the mere chance that something in his life would make him happy, he would rather just leave before he could possibly screw it up. and the only real way his life will ever make sense is if he is alone, hence, catch his rocket

    My Interpretation

I think these lyrics are about being lost and how difficult it is to be yourself and find who you really are. Also possibly having negative feelings or low self esteem and thinking you may never amount to anything ("I miss everything I'll never be"). Wanting to be free of self doubt, negativity, and guilt. Rocket is breaking free and being free. I shall be free. Love this song.

Another one of my favorite Pumpkins song. This song is just something I seem to understand.

A brilliant song from a brilliant album. I think the Pumpkins achieved something on Siamese Dream that they never really recaptured; the album just had a certain feel to it. When I first got it, I played it for days and days, and it's still something I listen to a lot. Lovely.

Rocket is an amazing song, i dont think people realise how much it says right from the beginning:"i miss everything i'll never be" dont we all want to be somthing we are not. "i torch my soul to show the world i am pure" is about being open and honest so people see us as we really are. "the moon is out the stars invite/think i'll leave tonight" when u were younger how many times did u wish u could fly away, im 20 and i still dream of reaching the stars!. "i shall be free/free from those voices inside me" everyone feels captive to others and themselves, and Billy is telling us one day he'll be free from it all. a great track from one of the best albums of all time.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
