Roses Lyrics
Drained as drained can be
Life is gone from me
Drained if drained is free
If only I could breathe
Smelling dead roses
Take your mind with you
There's no room for two
I can't handle both
Handle both of you
Smelling dead roses
But I won't fall down
No I won't fall down
Life is gone from me
Drained if drained is free
If only I could breathe
There's no room for two
I can't handle both
Handle both of you
No I won't fall down

Daniel's lyrics are often pretty strait forward when he wants them to be. It's the personal songs that need a f'kin decoder ring and manuel!! I deeply sense this is about the bonds between mates and not necesseraly over or in-between romantic interests; although, and despite of Daniel's off beat sarcasm about, "after (he) and Chris kissed last night," and Ben's "loving, deep-brown eyes," I'm SURE they have fought over girls as well.
There is so much angst between boys at such an age so I am certain they all disagreed over different things being elbow to elbow as often as they were.
Ben and Chris had (and still have) a very tight, wag-the-dog sort of brotherhood, whereas Daniel was headstrong, desperate to bolt into new, alternative directions; wanting to diverge from the very superficial Nirvana-in-Pajamas stigma as much as possible. Imagine having to choose between the safety of manotony, when you're testosterone driven ingenuities are often running with the bulls.

Career and comrades OR the crucial creative processes that got him there in the first place? Sadly; to this day he was never able to keep both.

I love this song =D
gotta agree with you : )
this song has a good beat, interesting rhythme. I like it.
Smelling dead roses...could this song be about being torn between two loves?
well, it references the black death "smelling dead roses...but i wont fall down" SEE: ringaringaroses; a rhyme about the black death. the plague is a metaphor?
Is this maybe about having a relationship with two girls, but wanting one of them to maybe be on a physical level... "Take your mind with you There's no room for two" I have no idea, I'm definately not the greatest at decifering Daniel Johns' mind.
The first verse is just Daniel Johns being depressed on the mic. It sounds sweet though; the guitar and drums hit hard together as they do in most Silverchair songs.
Now in the second verse, I think 'in red weather' is right about being torn between two loves. There's "no room for two" and he "can't handle both of you." Also, "smelling dead roses" is a metaphor for foreseeing the end of a relationship.
Awesome song by the way.
