A Place Called Home Lyrics
One day I know
We'll find a place of hope
Just hold on to me
Just hold on to me
Walk tight, one line
You're wanted this time
There's no one to blame
Just hold on to me
(Come on my love)
And I'm right on time
And the birds keep singing
And you're right on line
And the bells keep ringing
And the battle is won
And the planes keep winging
And I'm right on time
And the girl keeps singing
One day they'll be a place for us
I walk and I wade
Through full lands and lonely
I stumble, I stumble
With you I wait
To be born again
With love comes the day
Just hold on to me
(Come on my love)
And I'm right on time
And the birds keep singing
And you're right on line
And the bells keep ringing
One day they'll be a place for us
And the battle is won
And the planes keep winging
And I'm right on time
And the girl keeps singing
One day they'll be a place for us
Now is the time
To follow through
To read the signs
Now the message sent
Let's bring it to it's final end
And I'm right on time
And the birds keep singing
And you're right on line
And the bells keep ringing
One day they'll be a place for us
And the battle is won
And the planes keep winging
And I'm right on time
And the girl keeps singing
One day they'll be a place for us
One day
I
Know
They'll be
A place
Called
Home

Its great. I feel like it's 'busy', it reminds me of the city, its a city song..I dunno jus what i feel from it. She creates his whole atmosphere, he music engrosses me...all aspects of me, especially this song. It reminds me of not fitting in, being the outsider. Perhaps its about lovers who are distant I'm not quite sure, though I'd like to find out.
i think this song is simply about not feeling that there is a place for you yet, knowing that there will be someday, but still searching. also, i think it has to do with a romantic other - one day they'll have the right relationship, even if it's not in sight now. i think it's about the search to belong, despite everything good going on "and i'm right on time, and the birds keep singing..." etc i think its also looking forwards in time and thinking how someday she may be domesticated and not just freelancing around living a wild youth or whatever. one day, she'll settle down and have a place where she really belongs.
one day there'll be a place called home.
It's just about two people who know that they gotta be together, but they can't. Probably one of them have somebody and now it's the appropiate time to end it: "Now is the time/To follow through/To read the signs/Now the message sent/Let's bring it to it's final end"
I just fucking love this song.
I love this song. I think that it might be something about two people not being able to be together or "have a place called home" for whatever reason. And it's just about holding on until they can finally be together. And agreed, It's one of her best.
The only instruments listed for that track in the liner notes of the CD are PJ Harvey - Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards Mick Harvey - Bass, Precussion Rob Ellis - Piano, Drums
So, it is probably coming from a keyboard. Sounds like it could be a harmonica or accordion tone.
The instrument I think is a combo organ, which is basically a fan powered accordian tone - the sustain is just too long for either an accordian or harmonica.
This song is incredible. One of PJ Harvey's best. The song has special meaning to me, I'm not sure what she meant by it though.

always thought it was a song about funerals (bells ringing, girls singing), someone has died prematurely in life but "there's no-one to blame, just hold onto me" ( the memory of the deseased). It's just their time to die but they'll be reunited with the people they care for in the afterlife.
The bells ringing and the girl singing (along with the fact that "the bride" is right on time, and him being right on line) makes me think of a wedding myself.
