First of all I just want to thank HUM for existing. Second, I came here very surprised to find that nobody is mentioning what I think this song is really about. SEX!! I mean come on, some of the lyrics are just straight up innuendoes. Ok ok the song is definitely not just about sex but after reading the lyrics while listening I found myself a few times going “Wow thats crazy that i missed that” “She wakes up smashed as hell and steadies her ass against the rail and BENDS before the POUNDING rain” yeah this could be about drugs but I think he is clearly referencing sex as well. She had the “widest” bright ideas and a “BOX” of tricks filled with ways to feel no pain… I cant be crazy right? Idk great song either way

I love this song, it is very charged... To me it's about a jaded relationship, but I may be off...
This song makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time. As far as the meaning goes, I think its a love song (I think all the songs on YPAA are love songs, thats why it has a picture of Matt's wife in the sleeve). Basically, I think its about being in love with this girl but thinking that the girl is somehow too good for him, that's why I think the use of "a MILLION ways to feel no pain" in the first verse and then "a BILLION ways to feel no pain" in the second verse is so clever.

at first i thought the fix would be her love and their relationship being the way he wants it but then i thought it had something to do with drugs, im not sure though..just a suggestion.
