o man I cant believe Im the first person to say somethign about this song...but all I have to say is....beautiful...this song is one of my all time favoties of any band its powerful... the heavy singers voice(dont know his name) is just amazing...though I dont know what the songs about
As far as I can tell, it is about leaving this plane of existence, and about being beyond worldly cares in the afterlife. The part played by Vibeke (fem vocals) is a woman who has died and found inner peace and bliss beyond the veil of reality. Meanwhile, on the plane of the living, Morten's (male vocals) character is mourning her loss, and seeing her face when he looks in the mirror; in a sense, seeing the part of him he has lost. He begins to wonder if it would be so bad leaving all things behind and joining her in the afterlife.
This is just my interpretation, I have no idea how close I am to the actual meaning of the song.
I'm suprised noone has mentioned all the references to Venus in this song. Considering that he says "Evening Star" I think he is making a play on words between the planet venus and the Roman goddess. Venus was the Roman equivelent of the greek Aphrodite (the goddess of love and longing) Venus the planet is the brightest "star" in the morning or evening. Where is talking about "runs forever among thy halls" I think he is talking about the rotation of the planets. Same with "star of riddance". I love the part about the wizard... I think he is talking about suicide "vein of obscurity" and "dagger that cuts"
That's a really good interpretation but i think maybe the 'she runs forever...' bit could be in his mind. She is running forever through his mind. Only an idea. Does anyone know what role Osten is playing? Vibeke is the woman who died, Morten is the mourner so who is Osten?
