Cavanaugh Park Lyrics
At Cavanaugh Park
Where I used to sit
All alone in the dark
And dream about things
That I cannot say
you always said destiny would blow me away
And nothing's gonna blow me away
At Cavanaugh Park
Where you used to take me
To play in the sand
And said to me, "Son, one day you'll be a man.
"And men can do terrible things."
Yes they can
And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change
At Cavanaugh Park
We used to get high
Watching teams as they fought
They loved my friend Adam
But he always got caught
Man, that kid made fucking up look cool
Aren't we all so cool now? No
And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
Never do change
Never do change
Never do change
Never do change
At Cavanaugh Park
Where I used to think
That my life would be good
And I would do things
That I thought that I should
And no one's going to tear me down
And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock
Some things never do change
And there was never any place
For someone like me to be
Totally happy
I'm running out of clock and that
Ain't a shock

Never do change

This song means the absolute world to me. "there was never any place for someone like me to be totally happy" is me in a nutshell. everything SC does is rediculously brilliant. i can't ever ever get enough. i downloaded a bunch of songs and made a cd, and we're going on month 3 and i haven't changed it. you can feel the emotion through the stereo and just kinda wanna give andrew a hug and say "yeah. i know that feeling" something corporate rules me to the max. =)
@CheshireCatDoorStop so it’s now Oct 2023 and I ran across your post as I was trying to find the meaning of this song. I just attended a festival called When We Were Young and Something Corporate played. Sadly, they didn’t play Cavanaugh Park. All the bands that played were bands we grew up listening to. In any event, I feel like I’m racing back to you from 20+ years into the future and I do wonder if you ever found that place where you’re totally happy. Here’s to hoping the answer is yes :)

A great song... it manages to go from when he was a little kid playing with his father ( "Son, one day you'll be a man. "And men can do terrible things.") to hanging out with his friends ("We used to get high watching teams as they fought") to his getting older and looking back on his life ("I used to think that my life would be good"). SoCo has such an incredible range to tackle the story of a person's entire life and pull it off so wonderfully.
the chorus in this song totally relates to me. This band is just overall great. They express so much in each of their songs. They are an amazing, underground band.
This song is wicked awesome. when i get into a mellow mood all i listen to is something corporate, howie day, john mayer and dashboard confessional. i love this song. it's really pretty.

If there was ever a song that I could relate to it would be this one. When he is singing about not finding that "happy place" I feel that everyday! Most definitly 1 of the best songs ever written!
