stronger than lies
the only truth i know
is the look in your eyes
the look in your eyes
just like a knife
my favourite weapon
is the look in your eyes
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
there's a ton locked in your empty eyes
get out of my life
and eating my fingers
i'm not the one
who's run out of lies
lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of lies
you've run out of time
and walking on splinters
i lost my soul
to the look in your eyes
your eyes
you ran out of lies
you ran out of lies
you ran out of time
they tell me nothing, nothing but lies

This is Ministrys best song by far, and the live version is one of the best live performences i've ever heard.
This song is definately about betryal, plain and simple
the live version on In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up (which is the absolute BEST title for a live album ever) adds this:
Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck me! Fuck me! Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck everyone! Fuck the church! Fuck Jesus! Fuck Mary! Fuck the Jews! Fuck the Buddists! Fuck the Hindus! Fuck George Bush! Fuck his ugly wife! Fuck Tipper Gore! Fuck everyone! Fuck Gorbachev! Fuck Noriega! Fuck all these assholes! Fuck you! Fuck me! Fuck all of you! Stigmata! Stigmata! Stigmata! Stigmata! They told me nothing but lies! Lies! Lies! Lies! Lies!
This album directly shaped the sound of Skinny Puppy's album "Rabies" a year later, which Al Jourgensen produced. "Stigmata" and "Flashback" are right at home next to "Hexonxonx" and "Tin Omen".
stigmata means marks that were inflicted on jesus... I don't get it. Great music though, LoRaH was impressive.
At the end there is a voice that repeats "heresy", I think...
On the live version, I've always heard it as , 'You've run out of life', instead of lies. Makes the song a hell of a lot darker.
He's a drug addict looking in the mirror.
@tony765835 I think you're right. I never thought about that interpretation before, but it does make sense.

It sounds like a drug addict blaming himself while looking in the mirror. The addiction for him is "stronger than reason" and "stronger than lies" All the times he said he wasn't going to go back to drugs turned out to be lies, and he hates himself. The "chewing on glass" and "eating my fingers" is the feeling of withdrawal.

Al Jourgensen famously was addicted to heroin, so maybe the "stigmata" is the track marks...

@tony765835 now you’re getting somewhere!

Agreed, I dont care what the song means....The sound of it just kicks so much ass...
Agreed to... this is the best song...
Land of Rape and Honey was itself the best album.
Stigmata is also the plural of the word stigma, which has several meanings, but usually refers to some sort of "badge of shame" or physical mark/branding that places you as an outcast in society. Al Jourgenson is an outcast in society, the title is a reference to his contradictory beliefs and also stating that "they" (i.e. christians, hindus, george bush, society and religion in total) are the real ones that should be branded as outcasts. The titles of Christian, etc.. are actually their "badges of shame." And yes, this is one of their best, along with Psalm 69, Thieves, and Filth Pig, in my opinion.
This Russian surf band called Messer Chups do a really cool rockabilly sort of version of this. With vocals and without. Check it out
