The name of the song was taken from the name of a book called "Hello, Oscar." It was about a schizophrenic guy. With that in mind, the meaning behind the song should be easy to figure out.

While I have always heard the same thing, that it was about a book called, "Hello, Oscar" about schizophrenia, I have not been able to locate this book anywhere, and frankly reading the lyrics, how can you say that it has anything to do with schizophrenia? Maybe I'm missing something, explain?
