Dying In New Brunswick Lyrics

You told me on your birthday all the things that this place had done to you.
And in the streets you walk.
You hide your face because they don't believe that it's true.
They say it doesn't happen that often.
But it's happening right now.

I'm writing you this letter to let you know I'm not alright.
And in this city the streets are paved with hate
And you cry yourself to sleep tonight.
And say "no, there aren't enough love songs in the sky."
You counted down the days till you could say "Bye-bye, city, bye-bye"
You're walking down on Union
You see the roads and know they're apart of you.

They say it doesnt happen that often
But it's happening right now.

I'm writing you a second time.
To let you know nothing here has changed.
The streets are still paved with hate.
So you can cry yourself to sleep tonight.

Will you look back on this night
As the day that ruined your life.
Will you look back on these city streets and say,
"Oh, God, where are you?"
In these city streets I hide my face.
I turn away when you look at me
And every night when I try and sleep.
I feel your hands all over my body.

You streipped away the street signs and shot out all the stop lights.
If you smashed away all the building what would you have left?

This song took a while to grow on me, but now I really like it. I read in an interview with Geoff it's about a girl who got raped. poo.

I was in New brunswick at their 1st show ever. I'll never forget the singer explaining how this song is about a girlfriend of his that was raped & how it ended their relationship because she was destroyed. I never became a big fan of these guys but this song haunts me cuz of that night.

I think this song is about rumors, and how they can destroy people. Stupid lies can ruin people.

I completely agree with KaleidoscopeEyes, considering I'm actually going through this situation as I am typing this, and this song just has such an enormous amount of meaning. Thursday is just unlike anyother band out there, and I cant wait until they come back to their hometown so I can see them!

this is my favorite Thursday song....i don't know what the particular hate geoff is referring to, or what it is that "they say doesn't happen that often." however, the message is to me, no matter what shit goes down, you can't fight your environment too much. if you smash away the buildings, what would you have left?

yeah moonsoon. you said it again. you are quite insightful. I wish I knew what stuff happened to his friend or him that made him write this song.

i'm not too sure, i got 2 impressions from this song. the first stanza makes me think of some form of sexual abuse. "you hide your face because they don't believe that it's true, They say it doesn't happen that often, but it's happening right now" those lines give me the chills, all i can think about is sexual abuse. but as the song progressed, i saw it more as getting away from a fucked up childhood. and talking about the town and the hate, is all the awful memories the person had to endure. i'm not sure, i could be way off base with either of those, but that's what i got from it.
