Diamond Ring Lyrics
You said that you would not love me last summer
And you said that you would not love me last spring
But I hoped that you would change your mind by autumn
Especially when I bought that diamond ring
But you still said no
You would not have me
You still said no, no, no
I heard that you've been sleeping with your old friends
And I heard when each one left, and broke your heart
I told you then that I would never leave you
I told you that I loved you from the start
You still said no
You wouldn't have me
You still said no, no, no
Even though you haven't any answers
You still think that you don't need anyone
To save you from the mess that you've created
And even when I gave my only son
You still said no
You wouldn't have me
You still said no, no, no
And you said that you would not love me last spring
But I hoped that you would change your mind by autumn
Especially when I bought that diamond ring
But you still said no
You would not have me
You still said no, no, no
And I heard when each one left, and broke your heart
I told you then that I would never leave you
I told you that I loved you from the start
You still said no
You wouldn't have me
You still said no, no, no
You still think that you don't need anyone
To save you from the mess that you've created
And even when I gave my only son
You still said no
You wouldn't have me
You still said no, no, no

In some faiths including mine, we believe that when we go to heaven the church, as in everyone in heaven, becomes the Bride of Christ. In fact it is actually a term used in the Gospels a lot.
all right kids, why no comments yet? this son is absolutely amazing. youve gotta hear it, not just read the lyrics. could make you cry. and think about the words...especially how the last verse/bridge turns the song from human love to godly love. wow.
i think i just havent commented on this song because i never know what to say about it. its just so powerful. one of my favorite ptl songs. the lyrics are so well written. i adore the music as well. its amazing.
oh! What record is this on?
its available on the "big trucks" 7" single
This song is a beautiful song. Its what drew me into Pedro the Lion, although I realizwed all of the religious undertones, I think its a song about a person (there's no mention of any girl) rejecting jesus, just listen to the line "even when I gave you my only son". Its still a great song, but now that I realize this, it makes it a brilliant song. Also listen to Indian Summer. And hey, dont just download the songs, support the artists by buying their albums. Even if you can only afford to do so once a year. like me
When I first got this cd I just read the lyrics and I was blown away! I showed them to my mom who then got all teary and I stuck the cd in... OK... HELLO... It sounded kind of odd to me at first but then I could just feel the power of the song. now i just love it. It has got to be one of the most amazing songs lyricly. WOW, David puts things in such a simple beautiful way that it really does touch your heart...
what is the diamond ring though? when did jesus give us the diamond ring? what does the diamond ring refer to?
I believe that the Diamond Ring is refering to eternal life in heaven. that jesus offers us life in heaven as long as we believe that he died on the cross to save our souls. well, thats what I got out of the Diamond Ring metaphor...
I agree with the above... it is about Jesus sticking around even though the person keeps on rejecting him Great song and lyrics!
