The Carpenter Lyrics

Who are you?
Man condemned to shine a salvation
throughout the centuries
Why ?
Was the wine of the grail
too sour for man to drink

The carpenter
carved his anchor
on the dying souls of mankind
On the tomb of this unknown soldier
lay the tools of the one
who for us had died
Tools of the carpenter

The one they lick
The same old sick
dream of their precious saviour

Kiss them deep and
make them weep
over promises of eternal peace

The carpenter
carved his anchor
on the dying souls of mankind
On the tomb of this unknown soldier
lay the tools of the one
who for us has died
Tools of the carpenter

I hear you
through the symphonic voices of nature
-the purity I could never doubt
They tell me to lie on the grass
and observe my saviour
The one crucified to the chirping of birds

The carpenter
carved his anchor
on the dying souls of mankind
On the tomb of this unknown soldier
lay the tools of the one
who for us has died
Tools of the carpenter

I am not a Christian, but I still love this song, I really love how Tuomas's voice works in contrast to Tarja's in this song...

I agree with Neithan. It's definitely referring to Jesus, but I don't think it's a direct christian translation as to "yay for Jesus" or anything like that. It almost seems like a curiosity of what he thinks Jesus's goal was or something along those lines.

Yes, it is about Jesus Christ, but it is again unique. Described in unusual way, Jesus isn't a perfect person in this song. It's also about mankind and our aproach to gods, faith, religion and so on.

This song is NOT about Jesus Christ. Tuomas has stated several times that Christ was not the subject of the lyrics. If you watch the music video, the man in the video spends his whole life trying to build wings. It's a symbol of attempting to reach perfection, to be divine, but his actions go unnoticed.

"They tell me to lie on the grass and observe my saviour The one crucified to the chirping of birds"

i dunno......sounds a bit like Jesus if you ask me, FallenRose24. anyways the song is about what it means to YOU. your interpretation doesnt necessarily have to coincide with what the artist thinks it means.

besides.........i've seen thousands of music videos that had jack diddly squat to do with the song. i mean take a look at the video for "Wish I had an angel"......they are just standing in a random place playing and looking pretty......has nothing to do with the lyrics lol.

I think it's about that Jesus did in fact not try to save the world but only to ease the pain while the unavoidable end of everything was coming near. There is nothing that could be saved.

kinda sad that Tuomas sings this one! Tarja is a much better vokalist.

I do think it's at all about Jesus, but the Christ. The Annointed One. You get those in every culture.

The video of the song seems to depit a Da Vinci type person, and inventor perchance, who makes his machine.

I agree - its definitely religious in some way. Anyway, I dont really like this song much - I really hate Tuomas's vocals; they remind me too much of American Pop.
