Family Tree Lyrics
Forgotten things remembered
The tigers eat their young
The body stayed but inside the head
The mind was on the run
A conspiracy of silence
The only way out of pain
Is turn around, run through it man
Too wet to come in from the rain,
Tell them...
I know they were doing it to you
But don't try doing it to me
Let me show you, how I love you
It's our secret, you and me
But keep it in the family tree
The secret of the family tree
When you hear them saying "trust me"
Don't wait to see what's next
Thrown to the wolves
Forever trusting
Raised in a form of living hell
Sing a one note song of rage
Live and die within your heart
So beware in the shadows
Your family tree waits in the dark
I say...
The tigers eat their young
The body stayed but inside the head
The mind was on the run
A conspiracy of silence
The only way out of pain
Is turn around, run through it man
Too wet to come in from the rain,
Tell them...
But don't try doing it to me
It's our secret, you and me
But keep it in the family tree
The secret of the family tree
Don't wait to see what's next
Thrown to the wolves
Forever trusting
Raised in a form of living hell
Sing a one note song of rage
Live and die within your heart
So beware in the shadows

This song is about a little boy who is being molested by his father. "Let me show you, how I love you. It's our secret, you and me." This is often what parents who molest their children tell their children before they do it. "I know they did it to you, but don't try doing it to me" refers to the fact that a small fraction of children who suffered the trauma of child molestation do it to their children also. It's a good song, but it makes me sad.
I believe this song is based off of parental incestuous rape (or child molestation), because there are a lot of hints this song gives off.
"Forgotten things remembered The tigers eat their young "
This is supposed to depict a former victim of child molestation, and how his parent(s) betrayed his trust and forced them to do things he was uncomfortable with.
"The body stayed but inside the head The mind was on the run "
This also talks about how his body was unaware of what they were going to do to him, but his mind knew something bad was going to happen. He wanted to make a run for it, but it would only end up in failure.
"Conspiracy of silence"
This also meant that his relatives knew about the incident, but pretended to not care about it for the sake of the molester's safety.
"The only way out of pain Is turn around and run through it man Too wet to come in from the rain,"
He's trying to run away from his problems, but he realizes that it doesn't work, so he runs at it and tries to fight against it as hard as he can.
"Tell them... I know they were doing it to you But don't try doing it to me "
Like as said for conspiracy of silence, but the thing is, he/she had a son/daughter regardless of their molestation. His/her offspring fear that they will repeat that same trauma that has affected him/her.
"Let me show you, how I love you It's our secret, you and me Let me show you how I love you But keep it in the family tree... The secret of the family tree "
This literally gives it out. What the lyrics meant by "let me show you, how I love you" it means how their parent(s) are really molesting them due to sexual frustration. Also, "It's our secret, you and me" is common among those that the molested victim heard before he/she has been inappropriately touched by his relative(s), including parent(s). "But keep it in/The secret of the family tree" is supposed to mean secrecy and the elusive behavior of the family itself and how cautious and forgiving the family members may be.
"When you hear them saying 'Trust me' Don't wait to see what's next " This means that after the incident, the former sex abuse victim could not trust his own family or his relatives because of their knowledge of the incident and failed to prevent it from happening.
"Thrown to the wolves Forever trusting, Raised in a form of living Hell " Before and after the incident, the victim was abused/harassed by family members, and it didn't seem to stop until he got older.
"Sing a one note song of rage Live and die within your heart " The victim grew up to be a musician, and has felt agony and pity deep inside when he remembers of the incident.
"So beware in the shadows Your family tree waits in the dark" This is supposed to mean that the victim has taken extreme caution in order to prevent minimal contact with any family members, while his family members stalk him without his knowledge.
REMINDER: This is just my interpretation. I may be wrong, though.
@AhPawCohLypse the line “ The body stayed but inside the head The mind was on the run "

That really is talking about how when a person is going through something horrible or traumatic the mind will blank out and start thinking about something else as a defense mechanism. So the body stayed and took the abuse but they were thinking of something else so they didn’t have to focus on reality. You hear stories from rape victims all the time and they almost always say something along the lines of “I couldn’t move or anything all I could do is...

You hear stories from rape victims all the time and they almost always say something along the lines of “I couldn’t move or anything all I could do is think of somewhere else to be or think of something else” so that they didn’t have to think about the reality of what was going on. It’s also why people forget traumatic experiences until they are older and something happens and the memories are unlocked (hence the beginning line “Forgotten things remembered”)
So the story is- a son was raped by a family member, he could only lay there and take it but each time he was thinking about somewhere else to take him away from reality and then when he was older suppressed memories resurfaced and he remembered
I agree paladin5777.
He's all like "Hey beby, I like to touch little boys wangs and shit", and she's all "Oh, you are soooo sexy, can I tough your wang?" and he's all "uhhh, shhhyeah" and then they probably do it or something, I dunno.
The song is about incest. It can be anything about incest.
"Let me show you, how I love you. It's our secret, you and me."
The song name gives it out. It's giving the message that the person has to stay in the family tree.
no, the first one was right, it's about parents molesting their children and then those children molesting their children. Very sad indeed. I'm have a friend who knows like everything about Megadeth. strangly enough this is one of my favorite songs by them... probably because it bears a slight resemblance to Prison Sex but Prison Sex is about something totally different.... Anyway this is my favorite song by Megadeth along with The Scorpian another pretty mindfucking song.... If you think like I do.
This song just plain rocks. Personally, I think this song is about the dog-eat-dog aspect of humanity. The "family tree" representing all of the human race. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like more sense than being about anything sexual.
"Too wet to come in from the rain" - to me, is the most disturbing, sickening lyric line I've heard. I hope it was intended!?
This song is about a boy being molested by a father who used to be molested as a child. I own the remastered Youthanasia cd and in the booklet, the page opposite the Family Tree lyrics shows a small boy in pajamas looking around the corner into another room of an empty, broken home. In the other room is a translucent, shadowy picture of an older, nude man.
I love the verse riff in this song.
haha what was i thinking...I know it's about Incest....who doesn't....
