Strange Condition

I don't mean to sound contrary to everyone else, but I don't believe that it's a love song... or not SO much a love song. He might be in love with whomever the song is addressed to, but that's not really important.

I think:

• Yorn is talking about his experiences, "A day in prison" got him thinking about his life. (Prison could be anything that held him back and gave him pause. A bad job, relationship, etc.) "It's got me out of my head"/"a strange condition" to reflect on himself, to be thinking about his life while in "prison." Basically, yorn feels weird about it.

-Let me finish his thought: "I want you to know (what I think about this life)". i.e. "Stories and cigarettes... girls," and "You're the best... place," are lines about how he sees other people/the place he lives.

• The refrences yorn makes to wages and letters (and others) is more symbolical. It's more a "give me what I'm due" sort of thing. She owes him something emotionally, perhaps.

And that's pretty much it. I hope I wrote understandably. I have a habit of using really weird sentence structures, etc. I might be all wrong, anyway. That's just what I thought. Peace.

heres my take on this song - and its a rather simple one. he likes this girl, and he wants her to know that...because he thinks life is pretty much "prison" and only love will make that bearable. so he wants her to know he loves her cause he wants to know if she loves him and if she can save him from this "prison" that is life.

it sounds like he's visiting someone he used to know, and seeing her is like being in prison. It's driving him nuts, and he doesn't know why he even bothered going there to begin with. This girl is obviously something else - he says she's stronger than "lesser girls" and she's the best thing "to come out of this place". He wants her to know how wierd it is for him, because he longs for her so much. He wants her to "leave out the others" and settle for him. I think maybe there was a falling out, or worse. She owes him money, they exchange letters.... or something to that affect.

I can almost feel the awkwardness and longing he is singing about. He wants to know... but the uncertainty and turbulence is driving him insane. he's all locked up inside.
well that's my take on it.

Not every song is about love for someone of the opposite sex. If everybody would actually takes the time to listen and analyse the lyrics with an open-mind, I think we would all conclude it's about something like this:

He's talking to a girlfriend about his life. He's reflecting on past memories (stories, cigarettes, other girls he's been with and hurt before). Sounds like she is reading him a meaningful letter, possibly about the way she feels, maybe even wanting to breakup. But the song isn't about love directly, it's about him reflecting on LIFE in general. Like he's living his days in prison, everything seems strange, and he's wondering how come he hasn't found his purpose yet "it's got me outta my head

makes a bit of sense, helix noon, but to me this song is always just an exceptional love song.

there's something about yorn's voice which just adds so much emotion to the song. it really makes you feel whatever emotion he's trying to convey with the song, and from this song i get a strong sense of longing and love, like he just wants to tell this girl he loves her IE "i want you to know"

he's stuck in a rut and reflecting on the situation he's in with his life...but at the same time this song is so uplifting! i listen to it everyday to start my day off and never tire of it, it just puts me in a good mood, like all his other songs.
