“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Obviously it's based off the imagery of the apocalypse found in the Bible. The Four Horsemen come down to Earth to signal the end of days. The band is projecting this image onto themselves, since there are coincidentally four members of Metallica. I know I'm confused as to why they changed the War Horseman into Time though. War just seems to fit the whole theme best of all, you know?
Let me explain one thing about the endless war. There will always be more people who say that Metallica is better than Megadeth. The reason is simple and it comes down to the marketplace.<br /> <br /> The name Megadeth is unpalatable to the ordinary man. It will never be acceptable at mainstream level. It is only because of their achievments musically that mainstream acknowledges them.<br /> <br /> Now to answer who is truly better. They were peers without equals until Metallica sold out. There is no other way to explain it. You do not change teams ever.<br /> <br /> Anyway all of the above is my opinion except the bit about the names. If the names of the bands had been reversed from the beginning Metallica would have never been anything other than independently underground.
It is not related to Metallica themselves. Why a metal band would replace war with time...i will never understand.
