A World Without Melody Lyrics

I don't want to live
In a world without melody
Sometimes the rhythmic din
Of society is too much for me
But purpose is prioritized
These days the goal is win the prize
There's a sleeping resonance we hold,
Through which we're unified
So let it out! don't just get lost in the crowd
No one can deter you from your own path
There's no trip too remote
From which you can't come back
And I've got this hunch about you and me
None of us are ready
For a world without melody
Melody is the key,
It's the surest way
To unlock your individuality
Melody is the key,
It will set you free!
Don't disrelish harmony,
Community will make you whole
Work and understanding are the chords
Way deep within your soul
They only need to be struck once,
And the vibrations swell and spread
But if we mute them they decay,
Our sensibilities are dead
So let it out! don't just be one of the crowd
Hesitance and diffidence will do you in
And your soul doesn't care
For social medicine
And I've got this hunch
About you and me
None of us are ready
For a world without melody
Melody is the key,
It's the surest way
To unlock your individuality
Melody is the key,
It will set you free!
And I know together we could change the world
Just you and me
But I won't live without melody

This is one of Bad Religion's most eloquent lyrics and this song is suprisingly underrated. I agree it is partly about the power of music, but music is only a metaphor for its greater meaning. To me the song is about listening to your own heart, or inner "music", marching to the beat of your own drum, instead of being overcome by unfulfilling demands of society. Also, comparying "harmony" with community is brilliant. Musical harmony makes for pleasing listening, while harmony among individuals, despite their differences in race, religion, etc., makes for a more ideal place to live.

This is a great song about the power that music has, and the preciousness of it. Music is a beautiful thing, and it can do a lot of great things if it is used right.

bad religion has always been about spreading knowlegde and this may be they only song of theirs about the most powerful thing we have created. music is more than just something we listen to. it is our soul and we more people should take that into consideration

Bad Religion is about spreading atheist propaganda. I can't believe you people fall for their crap. Your supposed to be sooo intelligent. Guess not ever hear of indoctrination?

haha anyone who puts down BR I can't take seriously.

This song emphasizes the potential of individuality. How everyone has harmonious chords inside them waiting to be struck and resound but you have to unlock it and stand out.. This song makes more sense if you play an instrument...

the last verse is cute.. just stating all you need is yourself and melody to change the world

cute song! lol... its good

There are some countries where music is banned and uber religious people want everyone else to stop listening to music altogether. Greg must have seen stuff like that, and that's where the song comes in.

"But purpose is prioritized These days the goal is win the prize There's a sleeping resonance we hold, Through which we're unified "

that part reminds me "smells like teen spirit" and there is some other part that sounds like it to

and that song sucks
