[Verse 1]
Too many people are walkin' around
Too many people are dead in this town
And all you people are dressing like clowns
And it's bringing me down

[Verse 2]
I see you out there and you're like a disease
You point your finger of judgment with ease (With ease)
You're on the street and you ain't workin' for free
And it's bringing me down

[Pre-Chorus]
I see where all this is going
I've seen it all
I see what you don't wash away
And it's about to fall
It's about to fall

[Chorus]
Still you point your monkey finger
Still you point your monkey finger

[Verse 3]
You're using words and then you change what they mean
It doesn't matter, it's just a smokescreen (Smokescreen)
And your reality is just a bad dream
And it's bringing me down

[Verse 4]
I hear your voices while you scream at the sky
And I bet you don't even know why
Why not listen, why not give it a try?
And the pig's so divine

[Pre-Chorus]
I see where all this is going
I've seen it all
I see what you don't wash away
And it's about to fall
It's about to fall

[Chorus]
Still you point your monkey finger
Still you point your monkey finger

[Pre-Chorus]
I see where all this is going
I've seen it all
I see what you don't wash away
And it's about to fall
It's about to fall

[Chorus]
Still you point your monkey finger
Still you point your monkey finger
Still you point your monkey finger
Still you point your monkey finger

    Song Meaning

This track criticizes societal issues and hypocrisy, addressing various themes, including judgment, misinformation, and the fallacy of reality. First, it discusses the dissatisfaction with society in that too many people are walking around like mindless zombies and dressing ridiculously, a commentary on conformity and the lack of individuality in society. It secondly focuses on the hypocrisy of people who pass judgment on others without truly understanding their situations, portraying them as "diseases" infecting society with their self-righteousness and not even contributing positively to society. The third is people who twist words to fit their desired narrative, creating a smokescreen of confusion and misinformation. The final part is of Importance of the need for open-mindedness and empathy, rather than resorting to blind anger and rage.

Overall, in summary, it critiques the societal issues of judgment, hypocrisy, misinformation, and the manipulation of language. It encourages listeners to reflect on their own behaviors and perceptions and to strive for a more authentic and compassionate society.

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
