She was on my mind
When I first crossed the border
And the guard made me take off my shoes
My feet cold already
As I was going it alone
I think I thought all I could do was lose

But that wasn't now
This isn't then
And I got a floating feeling like everything I do is right
Oh now I'm diggin' being by myself
And nobody's waiting up for me tonight

Pour me another beer
I'll tell you another story from the Bible
We'll laugh
And we'll sing
And we will turn into fools
It's a drunken gospel barroom revival.

Well you could tell me how
The girls are out to get you
That fear has always been by your side
You could tell me how
Love always hurts you
But you go along for the bumpy ride
Well I could tell you
I was born in a stable
And sheeps, and cows, and kings came to see
You'll say you dig it
That it's all cool
And I'll say "Ha! That was Jesus - that wasn't me!"

Pour me another beer
I'll tell you another story from the Bible
We'll laugh and sing and we will turn into fools
It's a drunken gospel barroom revival

Well I felt terrible
When I first crossed the border
So I turned to the women and the booze
Now that I've met you
I feel so much worse
I realize there's a lot more that I could lose

Pour me another beer
I'll tell you another story from the Bible
We'll laugh and sing and we will turn into fools
It's a drunken gospel barroom revival
It's a drunken gospel barroom revival

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Techno Ted
Audioslave
Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
