The other side.

A lifetime of mourning inside of me, rising so high I can barely breathe. Purpose replaced with doubt, blinded by the thought of a life lived without you.

No wound to cauterize, this is a plague produced by the body. Torment, fate undetermined, buried in grief waiting for your end to come.
Blood thickens, the pressure in your head higher and higher.
Sight fading, tell me this isn’t how it ends. Now death is calling, it’s calling you, but it’s not your time.

Will you stay with me? With darkness all around us,
there’s nowhere left to hide.
Will you stay with me? I can’t do this without you, I don’t think I’ll survive the other side.

My darkest days are screaming in my face. Who can I blame? ‘Cause I can’t do this alone,
God don’t let her go. It’s on your face, you’re an ocean with no waves, there’s no words left to pray. I can’t
do this alone.

Will you stay with me? With darkness all around us,
there’s nowhere left to hide.
Will you stay with me? I can’t do this without you, I don’t think I’ll survive the other side.

I can’t walk away or turn around, I swear to God don’t leave me now. But I will follow you to
the other side.

Fighting with fate, facing reality. There’s no escape, no refuge that I can seek. Death
comes for us all.

“On February 3, 2021, my wife, Crystal, went to the emergency room. She had barely eaten in a week, and was beginning to lose movement, as well as speech. The doctors found four clots in major arteries, in her brain. 98 per cent blockages in some. They told me they may have to perform emergency brain surgery, but were doing everything they could to stabilise her, since the procedure is extremely dangerous. This song takes the listener through the night I almost lost my wife to a stroke, and me contemplating a life without her. Something she still is battling through every day – she is about to have her third brain surgery.” kerrang.com/fit-for-a-kings-track-by-track-guide-to-new-album-the-hell-we-create

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
