Isn't Everyone Lyrics
(Feat HEALTH)
I'm gonna watch you drown
I will light the match that burns it all down
You pop [?] and cast your spells
All the little piggies cannot help themselves
No, no no, no, no
Just stop pretending, you feel the same
Nothing matters, we're all to blame
We all surrender to those we serve
We get the world we all deserve
You faked eternity again, you think we'll turn away
I wanna know your bitterness, death is real
You think we're turning into you, you think you got away
We wanna hold your bitterness, where do we go?
You faked eternity again, you think we'll turn away
I wanna know your bitterness, death is real
You think we're turning into you, you think we'll turn away
We wanna hold your bitterness, where do we go?
Just stop pretending, you feel the same
Nothing matters, we're all to blame
We all surrender to those we serve
We get the world we all deserve
(Are you alone?) Just stop pretending
(Are you alone?) You feel the same
(Isn't everyone?) Nothing matters
(Isn't everyone?) We're all to blame
(Are you alone?) We all surrender
(Are you alone?) To those we serve
(Isn't everyone?) We get the world
(Isn't everyone?) We all deserve
Are you alone?

This song features the Los Angeles alt rock band 'HEALTH' it's a collaboration. I'm basing my analysis partially on Jake Duzik (singer/guitarist) of HEALTH's comments on the song. He says the part of the lyrics he wrote were more on the abstract side, having to do with the chaotic political backdrop of 2020 & all the issues that piled up during that time as well. I agree with that of course, the lyrics do speak to this, I also feel they describe the conflict everyone feels about in general - such as; what is right & wrong in society, when to cancel others, when to speak up & when to step down. I think the song is saying we get the result we ask for when we fail to make the choices we have to.
This almost sounds like Head Like a Hole part 2.
Head Like a Hole was very feisty, deliberate, and independent, to say the least, and somewhere along the way we confused seeking individual meaning for ourselves as being synonymous with loneliness, and then tried to fix the loneliness with aligning to thoughtless purpose of others’. So now we have a very troubled and frustrating problem where the bitterness toward the world and wanting to change it cannot be legitimate because it doesn’t mean anything personal to us at this point in time.
It’s almost like resignation or giving up.
I find it even more interesting when listening to
In that order, because it’s almost like they’re talking to each other and the resignation is: you did this to yourself because you never gave it a meaning in the first place.
